80's Metallica = teh awesome.
90's Metallica = Not bad, not as good as their 80's thrash stuff.
New Metallica = just plain atrocious.

My thoughts exactly. With the exception of Bleeding Me, since it's my favorite Metallica song and I believe that came out in the 90's.

Even now Hetfield has a unique style of his own.

In my opinion, you really can't beat Blackened in terms of greatness.
I heard Between The Buried And Me covered that song, must be amazing.
And Holier Than Thou is by far the greatest song off of the black album.

my favourite from the AJFA album would by Dyer's Eve or Blackened because they're pure Thrash metal style songs, The Black Album had a few good songs such as Holier then thou and enter sandman but it's nothing special considering what they're capable of. But that's why Reload sucked so much (IMO). It was the most alternative rock style and far away from what Metallica were capable of compared to face shattering songs that are just plain sexy.

i pretty much agree with what you said ... Dyer's Eve is one of the best songs ... (speed and dex wise) ...
and who here thinks someone is better than cliff burton (?) lol ... sure they are ... (nods to placate you)
hears the deal ... i am only 23 but ever since i was a fetus ... i listened to Metallica ... my mother went to a Metallica show when they open'd for OZZY when she was like 6 months i think ... i play guitar and i learn'd to play by playing Metallica ... i had so much respect for them as artists .
BTW there is no better way to Psych up than to play Fight fire with fire or Damage Inc. , etc -on the guitar to the song- (IMO) ... so ppl who talk about anything after black ... (and i only liked 4 songs off black ...) ...(And Enter Sandman is DEF. NOT ONE OF THEM) as being a favorite Metallica album , or greatest album ... i have to wonder ...
i do understand the whole experimenting thing ... but honestly ... Metallica isn't even about the music anymore ... why do you think they sux so damn much !!! they r just tryin to make a quick buck ...

Meh, it was only Lars Ulrich who launched the napster pursuit, Hetfield was in rehab and Kirk was staying out. There are better bassists now then Burton but not one of 'em in Metallica, Newsted was alright but Trujillo kicks his ass. I liked Enter Sandman and some of the Black album and some of load and st anger. They're not the worst music, but now that Bob Rock is gone there's room for change.

But sadly, James won't allow the album to get downright raw and metal as it should be, he'll still insist in the "we need to move on, we're a different MetallicA now" Bull SKULLS! judging by the "new song" it'll be a combo of Re-Load/StAnger/every other new bands out there.

I'm rooting for them, but until they impress me again I'll just continue to enjoy their first 5 albums.

Well Raw metal is what we had on KEA, RTL and some of MOP, it's supposed to be influenced by RTL and MOP but it's supposed to be a mix of the black album, load, reload and st anger but all the good parts thrown into one album while influenced but their heavier periods of music. I'll get flamed and attacked by people if I say my Bob Rock theory.

heh, I like their approach, but in the end all I care 'bout is if it's THRASHY enough for me...you the riffs and the way they SOUND and the drumming.......and the lyrics, if the lyrics is just a bunch of whining then "bye bye!"

I want it to be a combination of ...And Justice For All and The Black Album.

Well you know that Hetfield blew his voice out on the Black Album, if you've heard the way he's been singing recently live you'll see what he can do when he tries hard enough. lol, nah, I don't think Bob would be THAT dumb/un-moral...but who knows :laugh:

I used to post and discuss a lot in the MetallicA forum and many of them said that Bob was starting to produce for MANY other bands and really didn't have time or dedication to make another MetallicA album so they split.
