I've noticed more Metallica fans here then I thought there would be.
This is just general metallica, ups and downs, opinions, best concerts, best members.

Cliff Burton > Robert Trujillo > Jason Newsted in the bass skill comparison but Newsted always had better backing vocals.

Kirk Hammet needs to do some more fancy stuff, sure his overuse of the waa waa distortion suits him and kicks ass but I want to see him do other cool stuff.

MOP was my favourite album, better lyrics, rifs and bass. RTL had the best drumming. KEA was pretty kickass though. I like Binge and Purge, S&M and Rock am Ring 2006. My fav songs have to be Disposable Heroes, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Creeping Death, Lepper Messiah, The Thing That Should not Be (practically the entire MOP album) Blackened, Shortest Straw, Dyers eve, Enter Sandman, Holier Then Thou, The God That failed, King Nothing, Aint my Bitch and St Anger.

Your turn, just don't go trolling or flaming people's opinions, keep it friendly, I want to see how many Metallica fans there really are here at EoFF.

Well here's something, Newsted couldn't play anything in the song Orion, his style he used limited him greatly, you see he used a pick and pieced together the things he was limited to, but that meant that complicated stuff requiring clear higher tones and finger plucking were difficult to play, he never failed to impress me with some of the things he did but Cliff takes the gold, see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1Y04V9ZOhI Cliff actually did a waa waa like guitar solo before that song, he shredded too. Pretty nifty, Newsted had that cool deep tone sounds in his music but Rob uses a kind of funky beat in his music, I'm just explaining and showing my opinion here, don't get annoyed here, so tell me why you think Newsted was the best.

I would consider myself more a "casual" Metallica listener. I have the standard "Black" album in my collection but that's about it. My friend is kinda obsessed with them. I can however do a very close impersonation of James Hetfield.
There is no signature here. Move along.

...and Justice for all and Master of Puppets are their masterpieces. Ride the Lightning and Black Album are good too. I don't care about the rest. S/M isn't anywhere near as good as people make it out to be.

1991 and down, and then choice songs from the albums after the Black album. I used to love Metallica lots, St. Anger didn't really phase me because I was more into Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning and Justice for all, and after the Black Album they started to phase into the whole 'trendy' style, which I can't say is a bad thing, it's just the earlier Metallica was more pleasing and seemed to be a cauldron of Talent.
On the St. Anger Cd, they basically had the songs the same length, but instead of having the solo's to make an 8 minute long song make sense, they would repeat the chorus continuously, which got to be rather annoying. Naturally, none of the other bands of their newfound 'genre' had solo's so I'm guessing they didn't need them anymore. I listen to Newer Metallica for the lyrics, but if I want to sit back and enjoy the musical aspect, I'll listen to one of the earlier cd's. It feel's more musical and the composition seems better.
But hey, I'd like them more, if they came out with a cd that just seems like it went back in time. <3.

P.s I didn't really like Kill Em All. Oh well..

I still like MetallicA, let that be clear, they're the best metal band EVER, period.

    What I like:
    -Their fierce attitude.
-Lyrics which can apply to ANY situation.
-Their songs get you pumped up.
-Drumming which is NOTICEABLE(not the best) but NOTICEABLE! (There are FAR too many bands with drummers that are BARELY noticeable, they either play TOO standard or TOO aggressive).
-Solos that whip you and throw you around for MINUTES!
    -James Hetfield's old deep-growling voice.

    What I'm not liking(present-2006):
    -James Hetfield's CRAPPY/WHINY/HIGH-PITCHY voice.
-Rob Trujillo's stage presence and backing vocals
-Hetfield's attitude "Ooh I love my family, nothing's better than my family, if I make a bad album, smurf the fans, I have my family" and the OH SO ANNOYING "Are you ALIVE!?" in the middle of songs
-Hetfield being so DAMN hardheaded "Let's make ANY KIND of album, as long as it doesn't sound like the first 4"

PS: Jason Newsted's style is better than Robs.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gDtzB57HTA *boom!* Headshot.

Hetfield stopped the "are you alive?" He only did it for battery, but literally how does he doe that fricking crab dance? It's cool as hell. Well is it a crime to love your family? What, if your dad was a famous rockstar and was pissed most of the time would you like it if he went into rehab? He's not singing very high pitch, he's singing, it's like a more powerful version of vocals from the black album and load. Don't mention reload, please, my stomach can't handle it. But Rob's backing vocals are getting better and Kirk does some kickass backing vocals. They're just experimenting, don't get your hopes down so soon. I love that bass solo btw. I'm gonna learn it.

It's something to show love for your family. But it's something else to shove it down people's throats in EVERY opportunity he gets.

Lars has a family, you don't see him bitching 'bout it ALL the time.
Rob has a family, you BARELY hear anything 'bout it.
Kirk has...well a wife and he doesn't say much.

SEE! There's where I draw the line. When has metal been 'bout SINGING!?

Singin's for pop-stars. Metal is fierce, deep, shattering voices, there's no NEED to sing.

...And Justice For All is the perfect example of GREAT vocals with no intent of girly MELODIC singing.

Their backing vocals are becoming better, but I assure you, Kirk doesn't like the idea ONE BIT.

I like the experimenting.............but it's GETTING OLD. It's like they have NO DESIRE or inspiration in music anymore....so they have to experiment for 4 years to see who they can copy(SOAD/Slipknot).

By the way, ...And Justice For All is MetallicA's best album(IMO).

The problem with the and justice for all album is that they usually mess it up live, and there was a lack of bass. Metallica are experimenting, bands experiment to find a new confortable way of performing to get better. He can shove it down people's throats if he likes, Hetfield can do anything he likes, except ba-... Back on track, If Metallica copy a crap band like Slipknot I'll go emo. But metal can be about singing aswell, what look at Black sabbath, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, W.A.S.P. stuff like that, they have great vocals and they aren't the crappy screaming and grunting you hear from modern bands. Each band has it's own pieces and things about them, if they get the mix right they can kickass but it can't always go right, that's what I'm saying. How's his vocals girly? He has a very powerful voice as seen in S&M but when he tries he can get near to his old self such as seen at Rock am Ring and Download. What I think is that when he puts his mind into it and gives the fans what they want and not what he wants he can do some much better vocals. If his performance gets better so does the rest of the band. IT'S THE MAGIC OF TRUJILLO'S CRAB DANCE I TELL YA!

So do you get what I'm saying? Yeah I see where you're coming from but I'm just reasoning out and using my own views and thoughts and stuff. GAH! I cannot explain well this is why we always end up arguing in these threads.
