Yes, having Kain jump before Golbez uses his attacks that paralyze and slowly kill everyone would be very useful, but if he doesn't get a turn and manage to jump before everyone's paralyzed, Kain will be paralyzed and knocked out too. It's actually a bit hard to make Kain jump before Golbez's attacks, especially in FFIV Advance where his jumping seems to take a lot longer, and if you reload the game, you'll have to fight Calbrena again.

you should set rosa up to where cecil uses phoenix down and then rydia uses cure2

I don't know what version you're playing but, I'm pretty sure that in all versions he is weak against fire. Equip Cecil with the Fire sword and use Fire 2 from Rydia. He should go down pretty fast even at that level. And yeah, it does help to have Kain in that fight. You shouldn't need to waste a Pheonix Down, Life, whatever in reviving any of the characters.
