Yeah, MNK is an extremely awesome DoT job. And a WAR subjob manages to complement that very well.

there are ppl going mnk/pup and pup/mnk on shiva now
i'm guessing they're just trying it out so see how effective it is. I can't think of any real reason for it though. maybe pup/mnk for some added h2h, but mnk's a boring dd, /war all the way
Yeah the only bonus from /pup is better h2h and... Well ya get a puppet ^^.

Only benefit is a 1/2 lvled puppet, PUP themselves have no H2H bonuses like Martial Arts.

Still, I always thought mnk/war was the only way to go. I wasn't even aware people used mnk/thf in anyway other than for farming perhaps.

SATA Dragon Kick is very nice. Also MNK/NIN is a good combo in a fair few situations.
