Are you people counting acquaintances? Because that's the only way I can see *anyone* no matter how popular they are to have more than 200 "friends".
Friends would be people you regularly interact with. Who know you well and who you spend a certain amount of time interacting with. The person on campus you say hi to every 5 weeks or so isn't a friend. That person is an acquaintance. For some reason, it kinda annoys me that people will so liberally pass around the word "friend". My friends mean a great deal to me and I wouldn't give that label to just anyone. Only to the people I really consider to be, you know, friends.
Best friends: 7
Outside circle of close friends: 20 or so
Semi-close friends: 15 or so
Online friends: 10 or so
Acquaintances: hundreds.
