Don't focus on what it has to do with Riku, it's extremely minor, in fact it has a lot more to do with Sora. And you are right about it being red.

You lot aren't reading it properly. Mr Riddler already said that it has nothing to do with hearts, attire or anything of the sort. It's some red and hugely connected to Sora in KH1.
