Well, first time playing through i saw the scene where ya meet old Zell Dincht and i though "OMFG WTF???" and kinda kept my eye on him during half the game... Especially annoying whilst your in Dollet at the town center.. " KEEP STILL >.<"

Zell does have a girlfriend. if you have a stategy guide it says somewere in the part after missle base when squall is back at garden also at the end of the game you see Zell and his girlfriend.
Zell cheats on her with Squall. He molests him like... all throughout the game. I remember one part is before the first dream.
