No, they really are not that good. They are average players within the power metal realm, and I know damned sure could not stand up against alot of death metal and prog. metal guitarists.

I disagree with you.
Li is not only one of the fastest shredders, he can play that speed modally, which is a pretty rare talent. And note that being one of the fastest doesn't mean "faster than Malmsteen". I will concede that Alexei is not the best player, but his composition is brilliant. And his studio recordings are fantastic, it's only his live stuff you notice being a bit ragged.

Death metal is atonal. Meaning they often play without key signature. Which is loosely translated as "pick as many strings as you can in the next thirty seconds, and I don't care which ones". I think death metal sounds awful.
Prog metal, on the other hand, I think is great. They have some fantastic guitarists. For the record I love Pain of Salvation, and the solo in King of Loss.
