Default FFII - One of the better FFs

I just completed FFII about 5 minutes ago and i must say i was shocked, i didnt imagine it would be that good.

I dont think ive ever been so hooked to an FF game having spent almost all my time this week playing it.

It has a great storyline, music and characters which i love.

I wouldnt class it as great as the big four (VI, VII, VIII and IX) but it can't be far off.

So what do you all think of this chapter in the FF series?

    I thought it was nice.
It felt very epic, the level system was cool, and I thought being able to build your chars so freely was great.
The only thing that annoyed me was the tedious dungeons; mazes just don't work well with random encounters.

The leveling system was kinda weird (as was how they handle equipment...), but I don't think it was a bad game at all. Certainly one of the more tedious FFs, even more so than FFI, dungeon-wise. However, it contributed a great deal to the series (as II and III did): Chocobo (singular), Rebellion theme/'Greater Deal', surreal outerspace crystal dungeon, main characters dying (every half hour...), Ultima, characters with at least one dimension to them ('Dramatic RPG'...not really. xD Still, for the time, it was probably a breakthrough game in that department.), and it just goes on. It should certainly be remembered for something.

Oh yeah, and the Emperor. We can't forget him, right Nyara?

Ya, definitely an epic Final Fantasy, but the playable character scheme was kinda crappy. Like, not being able to keep the characters you level up for a couple hours. But the twist near the end is real good.

It was a fun game to play. I love the fact that you can customize your characters any way you want

    Vaan - "Hey, you!"
Penelo - "Yeah, you! The one reading this sig at this very moment!"
Vaan - "Interested in playing FFXII International Zodiac Job system?"
Ashe - "But you have no knowledge of the Japanese language?"
    Fran - "....We could help...."
Balthier - "That's right, Fran! Just click on Crossblades' thread on the very bottom of this signature and it will show you all license grid translations, magicks and tecks locations, and other changes that were made!"
Basch - "Don't forget though. Swap Magic is needed to play this game if you don't own a japanese PS2."
Vaan - "Also remember that if you played the original, you'll have an easier time playing the international version. We hope you enjoy the International Zodiac Job System experience. See ya then!"

Perhaps the one aspect of FF2 I love more than anything else is it's balls-to-the-walls approach to dungeons and crawling thereof. Unless your prepared adequately before a dungeon, or have an exit strategy, chances are you're going to get slaughtered. There's really little room for error. The levelling system is actually one I enjoy immensely, and would love to see something like that implemented later on (FFX doesn't really count in this department). If you were to combine the advancement system of FF2 with the job-based abilities of FFV/FFX-2, then you could have something pretty special on your hands.
There is no signature here. Move along.

mmm..... I loved this game, I just hated all the flangeing dungeons, it just gets a tad repititive and boring sometimes.

I love how it has no safegaurds against you royally screwing yourself. With the exeption of Diest and the Tropical island, you can reach any reigion on the map on foot.

    As Zeromus discovered one day..

"Hey! There's a place below Altair I've never seen before! Maybe I'll go there!"

    *gets killed*

"Okay...I'll go do that at a later point in the story..."

    Yeah.

I like it, but it seems to be getting earlier with each new version. For a challenge beat the rom.

One thing I hated, though, is the fact that you always risk ending up at some very perilous location.
I mean, the first time I played the Origins version, it was like this:

    "Tadaa! I've got a CHOCOBO!
Now let's see what's happening in the world."

    *rides to Palamecia*

"Hm, I can't do anything here.
    Let's return to Altair!"

    *RANDOM ENCOUNTER!!!*

"Uh-oh! What the hell is that?
Outta my way, idiots, I'm going back to Altair!"

    *attempts to run, and fails*

    *attempts to run, and fails*

"Crap. Alright, feel my BLADES, because I'm going back to Altair!"

    *gets killed*

I hated that too. It seems as the harder the enemy is, the harder it is to run away

indeed however the GBA port of FF2 was shameful you never need to level or get money on it god bless the NES rom its heaven cept I have no money at salasomething or other
I love lvling HP its fun and tactical ya gotta think every second in the delicate game of russian roulette that is HP leveling without the switchy spell (I havent played too much of the game just about 5 hours or so of power-leveling (no speed-up key on my emu) and dying from miss-steps stupid ever so close to home bombs...)if only square-enix made another game using a beefed up version of this games system
