I changed my name to Daniel in a moronic fit, and it lasted for a very short time - less than a month for sure, but possibly even as short as a few days, I can't remember - before changing back to Loony BoB. I think once you're very well known, you shouldn't change your username unless everyone already knows you by the new name anyway (eg. RikkuYuna89 --> Rye).
