go to mail.com and sign up there.
you can get images.
or..
have him upload the picture on photobucket or a different uploading site.

Try telling your friend to attach the picture to the email. As an attachment. Not as an inline object (or whatever it is or it's called).
That, or upload it to a place like Photobucket and have him email you the url
