FFXI is one of the leading MMO's. It has more players than both everquests and The dark age of camelot combined. Though it does seem rahter meager on the chart compared to the World of warcraft powerhouse.

My personal outlook on WoW, having talk to a lot of people that have played it, is that it is burning bright now but might burn out fast. It's great for casual players but those people will eventually move on to another casual game. The more hardcore players, I believe, are what give a game longevity.

I suspect a very sharp rise in december when the expansion comes out.

but enough of WoW, FFXI is also popular I guess...

It's beating out most MMO's even what were once considered power houses in the industry

I don't know. It looks like some of the games that are on there outclass FINAL FANTASY XI by statistics.
I believe in the power of humanity.

FFXI's success was mostly because of it's name.

Then again the same thing can be said about WoW

The name, and that its released in more places than just EU NA and JP. WoW might not also be showing the right statistics. Just because that many people subscribe doesnt mean that they are STILL subscribing and havent quit you know? i would imagine WoW is still bigger than FFXI, however probably not that huge...box sales or canceled subscriptions dont really count..
