Default How to transfer PS2 saves to a PS3.

    http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/about.html Question 11

"To use saved data on a PlayStation 2 memory card, you must copy the data onto a virtual memory card within the hard disk. This requires a PS2/PSone memory card adaptor to copy the data to your PLAYSTATION 3. A memory card adaptor is designed to edit, up/download game saves to and from EMS flash card or smart media card."

Adaptor will let you use your PS2 memory card on the PS3. What else will it do?

If the PS3 is able to pull off flawless backwards compatibility of both prior PlayStation systems, it will be a large selling point for a system that needs all the help it can get to justify its own price. They've now gone to a hardware solution for PS2 compatibility, and I think there are enough people with old or failing PS2 systems to make that a big draw. What about the memory card though, are you going to lose all of your saves? Will you be able to use your PS2 card on your PS3? The answer Sony came up will make many gamers happy while making sure Sony has something else to sell you with the system.

You're going to be able to purchase an adaptor to move your PS2 memory card data to an EMS flash card or a smart media card and then put them into a virtual memory card on the PS3's hard drive. What grabbed me was the fact that the Sony's official site says you can also edit your game saves, which is an interesting feature. This leaves a lot of room for cheating devices and the trading of saved games over the Internet. If you remember that one of the first soft mods for the Xbox came from a saved game of an EA title, you start to see why editing that data may be a boon for enterprising gamers."

Yeah, we can't quote as of right now.

So, what do you think? We get to buy an adaptor. While I am disappointed by the extra item required, I think this is a pretty cool way to transfer the save files. A virtual memory card on the hard-drive is certainly a good idea. What do you guys think of this?

This is a good idea because memory cards will not last forever. They will eventually die.

    Give me a break! Perfect!?

The bottom line- Sony: "can we make more money $$$???"

My PS1 save data works fine!! on my PS2...

I wouldn't sound so annoyed if all previous posters weren't saying "this is so awesome, and there is nothing at all bad about this awesome decision......it's so awesome!"

    Perhaps I ought to clarify:

I menioned perfect because of the idea that we could continue to have our memory saves and whatnot - not the method in which it is done. One could argue which way is best and so forth, but being able to transfer data like that, edit it, etc... is a welcome sight.

Perhaps the word perfect was not the most fitting word to be had... My apologies.

Can you still use your PS2 memory card to load up game saves? Instead of saving it to the hard drive?

Am I the only one that gets bombarded with advertisements and downloads when reading user comments on that 1up site?

And well, it's better than nothing, but I'd prefer that it was included with the PS3.

It's a good idea, provided the price is reasonable.

The adapter should be between 10-30$, not really unreasonable....
