I agree I am often scared to use too much or too deep colour, I use pastels and even make up sometimes to colour my artI do like the soft tones it gives but sometimes I think I should be more daring... I can be a big wuss sometimes lol
Same with the shading, I can be a bit of a perfectionist on occasion and there have been times when I've fiddled and fiddled with a piece and in the end ruined it, and so the fear of that is always there holding me back from taking risks with colour and shade etc lol :rolleyes2
