Xbox 360 Firmware Mod?

Someone I met the other night said that he has modded about 25 consoles and has never encountered a problem in doing so. He's doing the firmware update on the dvd-rom that tricks the system into believing that all discs are signed as authentic.

Does anyone have a modded xbox 360? Anyone hear of any reason why this would be a bad idea?

With the original Xbox, if Microsoft could detect that your system had been modded (which I believe they could do in most cases) they'd ban you from Xbox Live. I'm not sure if they can do so with the 360, or with this particular type of mod. If they can, though, that's a pretty good reason not to do it.

Yes, this will only work if you plan on only playing single players games, otherwise you will be prevented from playing games over Live.

Did Microsoft ban your username from getting on live, or just the modded system?

Bans your Gamertag, which is on the system that was hacked. It won't work anywhere else, you'll have to make a new account.
You could just buy another Xbox :P
