    The character portraits for the playable characters look kind of ridiculous, since they're based on the Amano artwork, from which the sprites differ radically. It'd have been nice of them to make new sprites for the sake of congruence, but actual effort doesn't seem to be an area in which they're taking too much interest for the FFIV-VI ports.

    Edit: GamesAreFun must have realized that they put their FFV scans in their FFIII directory, causing the links to break when they fixed it. The new links are up now.

    Can't see them, but I've probably already seen most of them on FFO.

    I agree with Kawaii; they should have either changed the sprites to match the original artwork (this is the preferable option) or drawn the portraits to match the sprites. As it stands all the portraits do is remind us what the sprites might have looked like if they even tried to make the characters look similar to the original artwork in the first place.

    But I like the new portraits. Even if it doesn't match with the sprites

    What on earth is up with the whining? The portraits are looking smexier and smexier. I especially like Butz's, it even looks like his sprite (the hair, at any rate.) Of course, we have to whine about something, don't we...

    no ;.;

    I would've preferred no portraits and just the sprites. I hate amano's original designs>:[ they don't look like anything! They're just a figure with a bunch of swirls around them >:[

    I can't say that I particulary care for the face portraits they did for this one, but they're okay. Still, I do love Amano art, and it's always nice to to see his work in-game.

    I think the character portraits are alright. The problem is that I have a terribly hard time recognizing them. Since Amano's art is so much different from the sprites, I'd think some of those portraits are Kefka's or Setzer's or something like that if the game didn't clearly show you they're Butz, Lenna or Faris. Anyway, who are the two people on the 5th scan, where the other one is holding a sword and the other one is leaning towards that person? Are they Faris and Lenna, Butz and Lenna, Butz and Faris, Butz and Cara or some other combination?

    It's Faris and Lenna. Butz and Klulu are off to the right, and to the left are Galuf and some long-haired dude. King Tycoon, maybe.

    I can't remember from the older games. But didn't FF6 use Amano's portraits in the status/inventory menu stuff? Pretty sure it was like that for FF4 too. It shouldn't be too weird to see Amano's work in-game. It's just using it in a style like Lunar and Xenogears did with dialogue
