Thread: The good and the bad

Default The good and the bad

Heres a thread where you can share the good and the bad stuff thats happened to you in the game. A lot of stuff can happen and sometimes when you think you can't do something. Someone comes and helps you out.

Here's my good, Me and my friend Exno started out on the same day and I was afraid that I wouldn't meet anyone who would have me on there team. Together we alone got airship passes and became best friends. Thats the best thing I did.

The worst, I went off line and my character got erased.

Immature jerks who set out to ruin a linkshell with drama, just for kicks. There's too many of those idiots, they need to get a life.

A lot of good things outweigh the bad for me, though. Mainly just doing a lot of things with friends. (i.e. Exploration, missions, quests, leveling, season events, etc)

"... and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written."

The best was the initial sense of wonder and excitement. The first time on a ship, or seeing a thunderstorm, and when the mission storyline starts to pick up. Before the MPK patch, when swarms of people would book it out of dungeons because of an insane ghoul. =D Ahh, I loved t.

The worst? Uhh, when a friend and I decided to trade jobs (I became a whm and he switched to my usual blm) and went to Valkurm, joined a party, and the two of us made a drinking game out of exping. -.- I'll admit that it was fun as hell, but a drunk whm that doesn't usually play as a whm is a very bad thing. I didn't show my face in that game again for a good month or two, just long enough for all the pissed off people to forget I exist.

Just starting the game and punching rabbits for a good hour, leveling up twice and wondering how I get a sword. Then looking in my inventory and seeing that I always had one just never equipped it.

The Hydra server, was the best times of my FFXI experience. Hundreds of people that didn't have a clue about the game - it was fun beyond believe. Let me share with you some of the things that would happen on Hydra.

In parties; You don't have a camp, you stroll around with a random amount of members and look for monsters to pick on. Parties consisted of all sorts of levels, and you could get parties as ANY job combination, There were tons of Warrior/White Mage and they got parties just as well as any other Job. You could also get parties any time of the day shortly after setting your party flag up. Parties were not at all organised, lots of parties I had consisted of all melees. It was every man for himself if the White Mage was being beaten on - that's his problem.

Gil; was incredibly Hard to get hold of. If you had 5,000 gil you were loaded. The best way to get money was to actually do quests, in Ifrit (And I'm sure any other server) doing quests to get money is laughable.

NMs; were never camped, except the tons of people in King Ranperres tomb would gather to find Spook at 8.

Getting help: Ha, you'd be lucky! The highest level I'd seen was level 40 and they were very, very scarce. Getting Subjobs was the most stupidly hard task, you were lucky to even see a Ghoul in the Gusgen mines let alone get it to drop a Magicked Skull. Most people couldn't take a Ghoul, so there were mostly parties of six hunting Ghouls. If the Ghoul ever dropped a Skull you'd have to Grit your teeth, it was too much to bare if someone else got it. I remember getting mine, I was so excited I could've wet myself.

Soloing; this was the only annoying thing about Hydra there were tons and tons of people, it was always a race to see who can get the mob. I always got a feeling of great pleasure after taking people monsters, espcially when they draw their sword first.

Last but not least - the people; I made lots of Friends on Hydra, but when Hydra ended we were all diveded amongst all the other servers. Most came to Ifrit which is why I chose the server, but some of them will never be seen again, it kinda sadens me.

The highest point was forming an allience between two linkshells and going after the "Ecological Threat" (Which I now know would've have completely ripped us all a new ass) we all dyed before we got there.

The lowest point was Hydra dying. Apart from that I don't have low points I just enjoy my time.

So Hydra is a server that was ended? Why did they stop it?

I was never on FFXI when everyone was noobs, SE need to do something to take away that systematic sense the game now has (level to 10, party in the dunes, then qufim, then yuhtunga, etc). I dunno how they could do that, but they could think of SOMETHING...

Anyways! My highest point would be getting my Blue Mage AF1, the first proper accomplishment I'd done all on my own... Ninjaring past the imps in arrapago reef, that just made me shiver with happiness. I admit the sword isn't that great, but it made me happy nonetheless.

Lots of bad things, not being able to get into a party, or just getting into a crap party where you loose more exp than you gain... Or spending ages getting somewhere, die the moment you arrive, then go all the way back to square one. THAT pisses me off...

Yea No.78 i agree with the die'n and not setting a HP along the way or even being able to ... it sux to have to traverse like 3 or 4 zones (depending where you start and want to go )

I just love playing ... Lvl'n and questin'
I am total FF whore and feel soooo sad when i finaly beat the game and go back and play it with the walkthroughs and do everything there is to do and bam finished it again .
This one i can actually go throughly and i still won't be done with it in years >.<
After i achieve saticfation with XI i am off to XII and then XIII Wahoo !

The best thing for me though is meeting alot of really cool people :chef:
Chuck Noblet: Can anyone tell me the tragic irony of the Trojan War? Tina? Tina: Um, that horses are friendly creatures yet a hollow, wooden one was used to destroy Troy? Chuck Noblet: Wrong and no. Anyone else? Chip? Chip: That the mighty warrior Achilles was killed by a small cut to his ankle. Chuck Noblet: Chip is wronger. OK, here it is. The tragic irony of the Trojan War is that though it was fought over Helen, who was young and beautiful, by the time they rescued her ten years later, she was old and ugly. Tina: But wasn't recovering the king's wife reward enough for the Greeks? Chuck Noblet: Tina, an ugly woman is never a reward.

Good - doing missions with Eleni, levelling 14-20 in one day, making money at the auction house

Bad - I died twice within my first minutes of my first party, waiting an hour for an invite only to get one right before I have to go to bed

The good: Playing with friends. Especially playing with my boyfriend, the Taru paladin. Goofing around and doing silly things in VanaD'iel. Breaking the records for the level 20 avatar battles.

The bad: Dying. Waiting for parties. Playing with inept players. The whole gil/inflation thing. Lag.

    I wanna go twise,

I was at a place (don't remember where) when I was level 25. Me and a few friends were leveling up but then the whm left. I was captian so I called someone to come in as a healer. The person came and then my old whm came back and begged for the one spot in the group. After a min thinking I came up with an Idea. I suggested that we split the party in two and then make an allience. So it was a whm, drg, war on one side. then whm, mnk, and war on the other side. eventally people were asking if they could join so I added one that was a close friend. That was seven people. We killed fast, Exp was still decent, and whm said it was easy healing two to three people instead of 4 or 5. So we could kill without MP breaks. Cause if one whm was down the other was still up.

The worst - my second worst exp was finding out that some combo's don't work in the game. Like mnk/red or as well put melee/mage, mage/melee combos. there are exceptions. like whm/nin at a high level. anyways that was kinda a bummer.

Good: pting with cool people and having fun.

Bad: pting with people who don't know what they're doing and get you/themselves/others killed. The fact that I can never afford anything. The fact that it takes forever to get anywhere, even with chocobo or warp or airship or whatever. The fact that you can try for hours to make a party and have nothing to show for it. The fact that money can be really hard to get a hold of sometimes. The general difficulty of trying to play FFXI. I've said it many times to my LS, but I'm going to say it again:

Sometimes FFXI makes it really, really hard to be able to play FFXI.
