roto, trust me, when you beat RE4 you'll know it lives up to the hype. It might be one of my favorite PS2 games, and my favorite GC games.

Anyway. KH2 was not close to the first as far as gameplay goes since all it is is complete button mashing for hours. There is no movement or strategy at all. I never even died or used any magic. Id say id give it a 4/10 since they had it down the first time, and they went and made it bad. I didnt think that the camera was all that bad in KH1, i didnt really like that you had to use L1 and R1 though.

FF8 was definatly overrated.I thought it was horrible.

Really dreddz? I thought Resident Evil4 got the ratings it deserved. It only had a few things wrong with it.

I actually change my statement, I think Halo is just fine rated. It's definetly not overrated due to the fact that people who never played it hate it as some kind of fad or something.

GTA is probably the most overrated game in existance. People only love it because it's advertised in every page of every magazine but in reality its not really that fun. Put enough of advertisement for something and people will buy it and like it just because of that.

FF8 wasn't that bad. Just the cracked battle system. That was gay.

I'd love to agree with that but advertisement is just what gets people to buy stuff. Holmes, holmes, c'mon. I mena if we don't like something I think us humans aren't that dumb to say we do.

GTA III was the best in the series. Now they just take that game, make the guy look different, and you can go into buildings. It was fun the first time. Not three times more.

Its not just about ratings, people go on and on how great this game is, and how is saved Resident Evil. Its a good game, dont get me wrong, but people go on to say that its a next-gen game now. If RE4 is a next-gen game, then MGS must of been some doing this next-gen thing years ago.
And whilst people were happy with the change of gameplay, I wasnt. Im a RE traditionalist, and would of prefered a RE experience instead of gameplay that could easily of been placed in another non-RE game.

I normally don't hop on the overrated wagon because I don't hype myself up for any game, no matter how many people swear it changed their life and made them complete. But Vagrant Story is one I was disappointed in... It's not really a huge 'hit' so I'm not sure it can qualify as overrated... But almost all who played it swear it's the greatest Square game and game critics all around gave it the highest scores. I was bored playing it, switching weapons constantly... I can't switch weapons...anymore...urgh.

And what I don't get about it is that people are always saying it's so underrated, and overlooked. But I'm constantly hearing about people going on and on and on about it. Blegh.

I mean, I don't know about most overrated, but it's definitely up there.
While I really enjoyed Xenogears, there are definitely aspects like this that were overrated. I can only find the willpower to play through the game twice because the translation is horrible and the dungeon design just makes me want to throw down the controller and take a nap. I got to the Nortune sewers on my second time and almost quit altogether. And I'm a person who plays through games lots and lots. Xenogears is certainly not the best Ps1 RPG in existence like many claim. I'm one of the few people that would ever say Xenosaga (despite its own flaws) is a better project from that team

So many are listing FFVII :O_O: Poor VII, a lot dislike you these days. I still love you Cloud and company

That's the dumbest thing I've read since Cloud No.9 was banned. Advertisement sells games, it doesn't make them good. If it did, I'd love Zelda, Metroid, and a whole smurfton of other Nintendo games.

The reason people love GTA is because it's a well-made series, with interesting and enjoyable plots, exceptional music and general atmosphere, it's absolutely smurfing hilarious, and there's few things more fun to do than go on a rampage and kill a bunch of people.

    Halo was tripe.

I can't understand why the your battle armour, which is advanced enough to withstand tens of bullets and then recharge itself to full power again, can be instantly defeated with a simple blow to the head.

Were it released today, few would hail it as the greatest game ever, or even the greatest Final Fantasy title.
Possibly true, but that argument is flawed. You can't reasonably compare games released when computing power, maturity in the industry and its experiences/innovations/etc, social trends, and a myriad of other things, are all so different to each other. It was precisely because FFVII was something new and amazing to us that it was so lauded in the West and remains to this day one of the most important cRPGs (And possibly even games in general) ever made. It was a game which truly wanted to be an artistic example, rather than something just to have fun with (And I would contend it resolutely succeeded), and whilst this had occurred before in other games it was something special for us. So yes, there is the nostalgic/emotional element, but you also have to look at the context the game was released in.
The context of the game's release is exactly why it's an overrated title. Because it was a new experience to Western gamers, FFVII was hailed as something spectacular, when in fact it was little more than a good RPG that happened to be in the right place in the right time. The game was undoubtedly one of the most significant ever made, but significance doesn't equal greatness in my book.

FF7. The stroyline and character development were way too weak to be cosidered the best RPG, much less the best game, of all time. (And no. "I was a SOLDIER, Oh wait, no I wasn't" is not character development.")

    Which FF Character Are You?

Pfft, that's FUN? Why not kill people in games that aren't piles of overrated crap? Like Doom.
