4 now, but maybe 3 when i play it.
I've only played FFIV, and not planning on playing the others.

So my vote goes to III. Job system, IV can't beat that. And the DS release coming close? Yup, III all the way, but I like the other two as well.
Meh, there are better ones I prefer. And I don't plan on playing the older FFs mainly because I don't have the older consoles.

I have played a bit of them, but haven't gotten round to finishing them yet. I'm not a fan of the older FFs anyway, I like the newer ones better.How can you know other ones are better, when you haven't played II and III? <_<
the first four games, i see like pairs. FF1 and 3 have a story that is really thin on the ground. the fun of these games is the battles and dungeons.
FF2's battle system is a bit weird... and FF4's is just too simple. but both have much more detailed and interesting stories than FF1 or 3. in fact quite a bit of FF4's story is based on FF2.
in order, i'd say each game improved on the last overall.
FFIII ftw, and with the DS version, by far the best, might even end up being better than FFVI (Blasphemy!)

Final Fantasy IV is my favorite out of those three. FFIII is a very good game too, though, and the DS version will most likely enhance it even more.
