Well I voted like jowey as I did not read your ultra hard to read purple text. For a web page, design a liquid layout that will minimalise to 800 x 600 rather nicely. It is not to bad, even with css.

I know a lot of people say going with the 1k is nice, but I think it is a bit premature to make that jump just for the way that some PDAs work (using 800base resos) and so on. If you succesfully make a liquid layout (one that adjusts with the page size) you will kinda treat everyone to thier specifications. I prefer this method over all no matter what. I did this with all the sites at work and people just love 'em. Being that I program with openGL quite a bit, I learn to make thigs small, but expandable.
