Thread: A silly Rumor

    Default A silly Rumor

There is this rumor going around on Carbuncle that if you face a certian way with certain crystals the synthisis you are doing will not or will at least have a lesser chance of failling.

If confused here is an example: If you face north with fire crystal while synthing you wont fail or at least have a higher chance of succeding

I highly doubt this dumb rumor is true but lets hear some other input from other servers.

I haven't heard that ... wonder if its true
Chuck Noblet: Can anyone tell me the tragic irony of the Trojan War? Tina? Tina: Um, that horses are friendly creatures yet a hollow, wooden one was used to destroy Troy? Chuck Noblet: Wrong and no. Anyone else? Chip? Chip: That the mighty warrior Achilles was killed by a small cut to his ankle. Chuck Noblet: Chip is wronger. OK, here it is. The tragic irony of the Trojan War is that though it was fought over Helen, who was young and beautiful, by the time they rescued her ten years later, she was old and ugly. Tina: But wasn't recovering the king's wife reward enough for the Greeks? Chuck Noblet: Tina, an ugly woman is never a reward.

Yeah, a lot of people say that. No one really know if it's true, but it doesn't hurt to try, right?

There's a bunch of synthing compasses on-line you can look at. Generally you're suppose to face in one direction (depending on your crystal) for a higher chance of succeeding, and another (also depending on your crystal) for skillups.

I don't think there's anything solid, but I tried it out to level up my Cooking craft, and I made it from 2-10 in a fairly short amount of time. So maybe it's true?

Well honestly i heard this alot, but when i ask, there is never any concrete proof about this, all of it is speculation on my part. It could very well help or you could just be having a lucky/unlucky streak.

So in the end, i havent seen any tests saying that its there for real, but nothing disproving it either. So the thing is, it never hurts to try, theres no real loss to trying thats my stance on it.

I tried synthing in all directions, failed all of them too. I say there is no difference.

It does seem to help imo. There are some solid numbers out there somewhere. A program was written to input your synth results and several variables. You could do this over a long period of time and compile what variables seemed to have what % effect on your results. People who have kept track have results that usually line up with synthesis theory.

My wife is a high level Woodworker and she definitely takes heed to direction, day, and moon phases. There is a very noticeable affect on HQ results as a result of these things. Moon phases seems to play the biggest part.

Having taken 4 crafts to 60 myself, I use diretional crafting to speed up my skill ups. When I far below the cap I will face the successful NQ direction and as I get closer I will either face a neutral direction or the HQ direction (which fails more often, especially under the cap).

Most directional crafting theories are based on a combination of strength/weakness of elements to one another (absolute fact) and the constellation chart you find by speaking to an NPC in (I think) Windurst Waters.

A 100+3 Bonecrafter friend of mine on Fenrir is easily one of the most successful bonecrafters. He believes absolutely in directional crafting and pays very close attention to all variables involved. He's made several Dragon Harness +1s among a cadre of other incredible HQ.
