Thread: Brd/Whm pulling ?

  1. #1

    Unhappy Brd/Whm pulling ?

I was in a pt in the dunes lastnight ...
    I was a lvl 12 Brd/6 Whm.
We had a Whm, Nin, Pld, War, and something else (forgot)

When i got there the leader of the pt said i should pull, and his mate chimed in that yea every pt he is in the brd pulls they are the best pullers because of Foe Requiem.

I am thinking ... Bollocks ! Maybe if i had a nin with shadows i would be a good puller, or something. As it was i wasn't set up to Tank (Brd armor isn't the most durable ) and i was the lowest lvl in the group.

    Are Brd/Whm a good pulling combo ?
I had a bi0-tch of a time trying to stay alive from pulling attack to party, and i think it hindered my buffing and enfeebling time seeing as how i am running all across the dunes for an IT Lizzy. (and buff brd songs at that lvl take forever to cast)

Chuck Noblet: Wrong and no. Anyone else? Chip? Chip: That the mighty warrior Achilles was killed by a small cut to his ankle. Chuck Noblet: Chip is wronger. OK, here it is. The tragic irony of the Trojan War is that though it was fought over Helen, who was young and beautiful, by the time they rescued her ten years later, she was old and ugly. Tina: But wasn't recovering the king's wife reward enough for the Greeks? Chuck Noblet: Tina, an ugly woman is never a reward.

I find that a bit odd. Almost every party I've been into it's usually the Warrior that does the pulling

    Vaan - "Hey, you!"
Penelo - "Yeah, you! The one reading this sig at this very moment!"
Vaan - "Interested in playing FFXII International Zodiac Job system?"
Ashe - "But you have no knowledge of the Japanese language?"
    Fran - "....We could help...."
Balthier - "That's right, Fran! Just click on Crossblades' thread on the very bottom of this signature and it will show you all license grid translations, magicks and tecks locations, and other changes that were made!"
Basch - "Don't forget though. Swap Magic is needed to play this game if you don't own a japanese PS2."
Vaan - "Also remember that if you played the original, you'll have an easier time playing the international version. We hope you enjoy the International Zodiac Job System experience. See ya then!"

I've had some bards pull with that song, but usually it's a thief or warrior. Since your party had a paladin it should have probably been the ninja pulling. Or at the very least the warrior.

The dunes are full of people who tell you what to do and act like they're something special because they've gotten a job to 60 in an online video game. Some can give you good advice there but I usually just ignore the ones who act like asses.

Ok, i agree with that Del Murder ...
I haven't seen that really happen since i started playing (granted i am still a noob-ish kinda person because i don't play alot and am not very knowledgable) but i thought he was smoking crack or something.

Brd/Nin would be one thing, for pulling
But we had a nin with shadows...

so far it sounds like i didn't have anything crazy in my brain making me think crazy things ....

However it sounds also like its not too terribly uncommon ...

i hope i have the gist of this accurate.

When my wife was leveling BRD she pulled in quite a few PTs, inculding several in the dunes. She really enjoyed it but we both noted how much more difficult it was at those levels than at 75. The problem at dunes levels isn't so much not having /NIN. The biggest problem is that before you get Elegy (level 40) you don't have a song that doesn't freeze you. You may have noticed that when you go to cast Requiem on a mob you freeze for a split second after the pull. This causes the mob to be able to catch up with you.

Luckily, my wife has had quite a bit of pulling experience on other jobs and so she has a really good grasp of how to be exactly the right distance from the mob to get hit as little as possible. It's still not always a good idea, because at those levels your tanks are often not very fast. You tank should be voking the moment it enters their voke range. Most don't and if not you could be eating dirt when you get back to camp.

I'd say it's best to hold off on the pulling until you at least have Elegy, but if pulling has taken hold so much at lower levels (as it seems to have) you might want to aim at gear that will make you more suitable for pulling. Then you'll need to practice placing yourself an optimal distance from the mob before casting on it so that you can run the hell away ^^

LOL thanks for the great info ... i had no clue about "Elegy (level 40)"

I did notice the momentary freeze and figured it was lag on my comp or something ... wow so there's a song to prevent that ... cool !

Either way as a brd i don't think i am really suited to pull (nor do i have the desire to ... esp as brd/whm) and i figure if we have a nin or a war ... why don't they pull (?)

Also ... sometimes the whm would cure II me when i got back and the hate would goto the whm even though the war voked. Well atleast until i started buffing the party and useing light Threnody etc. LOL.

I am not a big fan of the dunes ...

    rather odd.

    murrrr at the Valkrumers.

I actually have no knowledge to help you with. as I have always had at least a ranger or a warrior doing the pulling for us in an EXP party.

Brd is an extremly good puller later on in game, at dunes every job is basicly the same thing... doomed haha. Brds pull at all high level pts, especially manaburns and ws spam pts. If your in a regular pt or spam pt you can pull with requiem or threnody, but if your in a manaburn pull with a threnody so you dont DoT it and can lullaby it when it gets to camp. Suggest pulling with stoneskin / blink

I hear elegy works best for pullign actually. I hear it's something about being able to move sooner after casting or some such thing.

But yeah BRD's are great pullers when your going for the bigger chain numbers, they can elegy, then sleep at camp and just hold down a few mobs right there while the party kills them one by one, adding chain after chain with no time inbetween kills wasted on pulling.

Also BRD/NIN are good pullers to try out. You lose the support of /WHM, but gain shadows so you can pull and maintain sleeping several mobs and take much less damage then /WHM. But it's probably up to preference though. I've seen both work in parties.

    Grin thank you

i agree, at higher lvls i would feel more comfortable pulling as a brd/whm. esp with elegy.

I just never thought i'd be doing it at lvl 12 in valkurm

The biggest reason i asked was because we had a war and a nin, and call me old fasion'd but i just thought a war or nin would be better suited. esp since a hume war has more xp (and probly better defense) than a taru brd/whm.

but it all worked out, and thanx for the great info

***If their are any mods, you can close this thread. I got plenty of info. Thx***
