In the dawn of souls verson why can't i find the blood sword?
The one in Paul's secret room is still in the game, but the one in the basement of Fynn Castle is not, unfortunately. There is only one Blood Sword in the Gameboy Advance version of Final Fantasy II. Even worse, if you already obtained the Wyvern, then you can't even enter Paul's stash, even if you know where the entrance is. But don't worry, the game has been nerfed enough so that it's easily beatable without it.
I think he may be referring to the sub-quest available after you've completed the game.
There are a few items/spells that don't appear in DoS. If you're prepared to sacrifice it, the easiest way to get the blood sword (and indeed, the only way) in DoS is to equip it on Richard before he kicks the bucket. Since the characters start with the equipment they last had (bit of a metaphysical nightmare of course), he'll also have the sword available. Also this is the only way to get Osmose into the game, although of course it's wasted since the person who would benefit the most from it, Minwu, cannot equip it since it cannot be bought/found.

You don't need blood sword for emperor 2 since if you actually got to him,you should be strong enough to take him down. The non rebirth party needs it a LOT more than the dead guys.
