Well, it's not surprising it happened, it's surprising it didn't happen sooner. He will still be missed, I loved the guy, watching the show when I was little. At least he died doing something he loved, working with animals. Anything else would have been insulting. R.I.P. Steve. You were a great man, a legend. We'll miss you.

Just woke up this morning to this shocking news on TV. Very sad.
Although people are somewhat surprised he got killed by a Stingray, Steve Irwin, the man who seemed immune to all dangerous creatures gets killed by something that is hardly dangerous at all, in fact, Steve is the first person to get killed by a Stingray in the last 60 years, he'd be the last person I'd expect to be killed by Stingray.

Edit: It wasn't just the fact that he took danger head on that makes him so cool. It was the fact that he was such a genuine guy and one of the best icons for Australia, and he'll be missed a lot throughout not just Australia, but the world.
My deepest sympathies go towards his family, friends and his staff at Australia Zoo.
