I think they are just trying to make it a nice, safe place for everyone. I can understand their concerns over spamming because other Forums i use have Threads destroyed by going off-topic. And they do make tons of PM space available for people who want to have private conversations. Keep in mind that there are a lot of young people who use this Forum for help on the games and they shouldn't really have to read offensive stuff.
