Definitions on what can be considered rock music tends to differ from person to person, I have a very broad definition of the genre, as I do not like to get into the subcatagories and seperate genres when they are, essentially, the same thing.
Thom Yorke, of Radiohead fame, is my favorite vocalist. Enchanting, unique, and more often than not, an instrument all its own.
Daniel Gildenlöw, vocalist of Pain of Salvation, is probably my second favorite. I have only heard three of their records to date, having only recently begun listening to them, but I cannot name a song of their's I did not immediately enjoy listening to. "Pilgrim" from One Hour By The Concrete Lake is by far one of my favorite songs.
Matthew Bellamy(Muse) and Daniel Johns(Silverchair) also rank highly. Ben Gibbard(The Postal Service, Death Cab for Cutie) also has something about his voice that I cannot quite pinpoint, but I enjoy listening to all the same.
Not a lot of old time bands or vocalists on the list, I know. But these are immediate to my mind and closest to my heart, so there we go. Johnny Cash had a good voice, I will recognize that much. But I have to give a thumbs down to Kurt Cobain, I couldn't really stand his voice.
