Default Attitudes to music

Is it just me or is music not about the music anymore

I was listening to KERRANG! radio last night and the DJ asked people to phone in and telll him they're new favorite songs.

so this girl phones in and tells the guy her new favorite, i cant remember what she said. SO the Dj asks her why this is her new favorite song, to which she replies

"Because The singer has cool hair"

"BECAUSE THE SINGER HAS COOL HAIR"!!!!

since when did the coolness of a singer's hair determine whether the music was good or not?

It was probably some crappy emo haircut he had too.

And then they played the song which was crap as well

so has rock music followed suit of all other genres of music and become all about style, Squinn's answer is yes

however i also philoshopise that a hard bunch of prog rockers will one day rise and kill everyone thats making music today, thus saving the world

Usually, as most of my music is downloaded, I hear the music before I search for an image of the band.

If they are attractive, great! I can make signatures of them. If they arnt? who cares, aslong as they're good at what they're doing.

You can do that when they're ugly too! You did it with Lauri yuuiewyruitlonon, after all. <3

Also, I stopped listening to the Radio years ago because it's . Especially anything to do with Kerrang!, 'cause at the end of the day, it's not about music, it's about how much money they can make as a business, and as long as there is stupid people who will let people ram things down their throat and accept it as the truth, there will be people throwing money into pap like this.

Rock music has been a victim of fashionites for ages, though. It's KEWL 2 B A REBEL N ROCK MUZIKS IS REBEL!!11 So yeah.

I don't think so, I know plenty bands that look "cool" and suck, and then I know plenty of bands that are awesome and don't look "cool."

    GWAR, look cool, sucks.

Some music is good. Like the hush sound.

And then again, some is bad, like some rap.

It depends how you mean by music being music. The majority of music is played because the musicans love to play music and perform infront of crowds, thats why I play, mainly because I enjoy it its kinda like a passion for me. Then you get the small majority that are in it for the publicity, for the money, for T.V. and for being a sex idol for women/men, those people are sell outs, fools, embarrisments to the music scene. It is a shame that so many artists are in the music scene for the money and not for the passion, the enjoyment. It kind pisses me off.

I think most musicians are in it for the music simply because there's not a lot of benefit to being in a band that never becomes rich and famous. :P

True. The bands that are rich and famous, i.e. prince, michel jackson, blue, robbie williams etc. Are in the Popular Music genre, or pop for short. Those bands have been exposed as just playing for the money and for the sex appeal. Its sad because almost all those who are rich and famous play music for the money, its kinda unfair on the people that play well, really well, much better than the pop genre. While some coked up twat is singing for money the bands that actually have talent and passion for music are left playing in bars and clubs, never actually getting to feel what it is like playing infront of thousands of people. I have, but only once in the maker festival down in cornwall. I tell you something, its the greatest feeling in the world to play infront of so many people.

Music is currently in a golden age. Never before has so much quality music been written and recorded (in my opinion of course). The problem is that, while huge amounts of great music is being produced and released daily, never before has so much crap music been released. The listeners who aren't particulary interested in music and have no desire to search for music themselves are drowned in the huge ocean of minimalistic commercial music, created to stimulate the the audience visually. It is easy to say "Music hasn't been any good since my favourite composer died." when you don't have the desire to investigate what contemporary music actually is, and prefer to generalize it using the few examples that manage reach the surface.
