I don't understand why in X-2 they get changed for each cutscene.
Why do the bad guys always have overwhelming numerical superiority?
Because they're at level 8, which is 8 times 1, which is 7 more than 1, and 1 is where you first start out in the game.

Speaking of which, by the end of the game, when you're clearly identified as 'the one' and you're off to save the world from certain doom, why does everyone still charge you full price for stuff?
Because you saving their butts would be in vain if they were all poor and died of starvation.
What are the chances that, while all of the other theoretical physicists in a secret underground laboratory are quivering in fear from the ensuing alien and US military invasion, that one has the nerve to actually go through the whole thing, picking up various weapons he's probably completely untrained in, all in an attempt to stop the whole thing from happening?
Quite high, actually.
