Default Metallica suing fans

I read a post somewhere saying that Metallica sued it's fans. Did they really do that? Man, if it's true that's really sad because I like their music. What happened?

I think that was run by Lars Ulrich, over some Napster thing.

Edit: You can read more here.

I read that it was soley Lars Ulrich who took care of this dispute, this was while James was in rehab, Jason was gone, Rob wasn't there yet and Kirk didn't take part. Only few fans were actually sued. I know not if there actually were any. They just got banned from Napster and Napster itself got a kick in the ass from Lars and other bands in that dispute. this was in 2001/2002 though. We all know Lars lurves deh munneh. I don't know much on this, I'm more into Dio and W.A.S.P. Than Metallica.

This was 4-5 years ago, before Newsted left. Lars Ulrich alone launched the campaign like I said before. I don't even know if any fans were sued. Napster sucks anyway so there's a good reason to support Moneybagz Lars Ulrich in suing Napster all those years back. Their music archives are on itunes and myspace now. I don't mean to be a Metallica fanboy here but let me just say, Stoner, you're going to get yourself flamed to hell, hated and more in this thread, usernotes, PMs and more if you make comments like that on bands. Metallica have made many great songs, from Kill 'em all to St. Anger. You'll likely get into trouble for posting like that so edit it out before the moderators see, quick, make haste while there is still time. Don't worry, like I said this event happened years ago, don't get conufsed.

It's really pretty retarded anyway. Twenty years ago people were taking blank tapes and then recording their favorite Metallica cassettes that their friends had. What's the difference?

there is no difference...but the fact that it's less personal makes it a bit more dangerous to the income of the band...at least in the case of someone borrowing his friend's metallica tape the friend actually BOUGHT it in the first place. with napster, you could download the whole metallica discography for free...i guess it irked the millionaire

If it was cost effective for a person to mail out these blank tapes for free to anyone whom wanted them, it would have been a big deal.

I am against the pirating of music, simply because it is the exact intellectual property that we should pay for. When you buy the CD, and want to back it up, that should be fine to. Either way, smurf the music industry. I hardly buy any albums anymore, because the the bull that has been comming out of thier greed pig snouts over the last years. I think I bought a total of 3 CDs in the past 3 years. Where as I used to buy like 4 a month. I just lost interest.

And sorry tailz, if a man failz for expressing his opinon, or in my case a fact, I do indeed fail

I like Metallica, but I respect what others think of them. Although I get insulted more by Metallica fands than by peopol who dont like them. Mainly because I like my Reload album, which most fans dont like.

While I agree they suck now, they were good back in the day. And yes, you do fail just from this statement. Opinion is fine and all, but actually being arrogant enough to call it a fact, makes you absolutely fail.

I think it wasn't that great of a move by Lars. But just because they are famous doesn't really make them smart or anything...
