Highschool is definatley like that, FF isn't really as "cool" to let other people know you play as GTA or Madden.

In college though, most of the guys and some girls i know are familiar with Final Fantasy and their attitudes are completely opposite. I had a pretty good conversation about which was the best over pizza at the end of a night of heavy drinking.

When VII came out, though, I was in 4th grade and everyone was talking about it, and the discs were circulating through the various networks of friends. My little brother used to watch me play just so he would be able to join in when his friends talked about it. It was a pretty powerful game at the time.

whatever. just let them waste their time on pointless button mashing games. i play games mainly for the storyline. which is why im a big FF and legacy of kain fan. they may not be the most popular games but i dont care. as long as their good. i seriously couldn't care less about peoples dislike for FF. not that many people like RPGs because of the way they are played. and some people are just ignorant of important things like the story and just think gameplay is everything and seems as a lot of people dont like RPGs gameplay you can just ignore comments like this.

Bingo, give that man a medal. Don't get me wrong i love FF games but i think far more highly of FF than others. Let's be honest RPG's aren't exactly exciting and testosterone filled.
Mods hate me because they know they'll never be as cooll as me!

I think the recent disasters of FF10 and X-2 have done much to lower people's opinions of SE and FF. The gaming 'age' is actually low, starting around 8 years of age. And youngsters are all about the graphics, so they won't bother with the older and very good games, such as the lower FF games. They're only familiar with the newer disasterous games, and thus, being kids, they will group all the FF games under that terrible impression. And since the gamers are quite young, all you hear about is from them and they're biased opinion. Even for older gamers, they still carry this bias with them and never looked deeper into the FF series. Would you pursue a series if the first one you played completley sucked? No.

Also, at that age, when they are most likely to be playing games, they are too young to truly understand the deep storyline that unfailingly permeates all of the FF games. (remember, at that age girls are considered 'icky') Many who watched Disney movies didn't know or really care about the movie storyline. But if you happen to watch those movies again, now, at an older age, you understand and recognize those movies as very good. The same goes here. But no one will play a game again that sucked the last time they played it, all those years ago. And besides with the testoserone fuled society today, it's all about how far you can throw a stupid ball. So the storyline of all FF games would be considered 'weak' and stupid. So how much credit and praise do you think a love story is going to get. Not much. Very little in fact. It's sad really.

Not all people loves FF, Not all people hates FF.
Not all people likes RPG, Not all people hates RPG.

All of my friends critique FFI-FFVI for having bad graphic and then, all of them hated FF. But there are two of my friend who actually like Final Fantasy but they only play FFX.............

    End of my little story.
I don't really care if Final Fantasy was bashed, I'm more mad if Suikoden get one!!!!
I've always like Suikoden so one day my friend borrowed it. Then, the next day, he says Suikoden sucked when he's just three hours in it. He says that the graphic was not like FFX, gameplay sucked and all of that. And the same goes for Tales of Legendia. Senel was a weird name but I think Tidus is weirder. So as all my friend began liking FFX for its graphic, my hatred towards FFX started, thankfully, Christmas didn't charge anything for hatred. All of my friends are graphic-jerk.

I dont care if people say to me its rubbish or boring. At the end of the day I enjoy it. My mates ex said to me RPGs are dull, I'll hit you, wait a minute, you hit me, wait a minute, etc. And I just said "Fine thats your opinion." I like spending my money on RPGs and Final Fantasy.

Meh.. success breeds contempt. FF is one of the most successful game series, so it will have a lot of "haters" and bashing. Just jealousy IMHO
