I dont recall any computer game consoles being advertised. Only since the PS1, Ive seen them more on the TV. PS2, DS, XBox 360.

I remember seeing single runs of commercials for Final Fantasy VIII and Resident Evil 3 and freaking out because of how much I was ready for video games to hit the mainstream with advertising.

Now I just wish they'd start advertising more good games.

The one what I can really remember and going crazy over was Tomb Raider Legends. It was advertised nonstop on the TV till I bought it. Was kinda like TV was mocking me.

Anyway here is an ad for the gameboy micro that was aired in Canada, it never made it on to USA TV stations and i dont know if it was aired outside of North America. You just have to wonder what they were thinking with this ad though.
