I've never heard anyone refer to it as a next-gen game...
Because Ivalice is just that much better than everything else
acautally the graphic is better then previous FF such as FF X & FF X-2
i duno hard to explain..... like the NPC around the town, in FF X, the NPC din look so nice.... but in FF XII, the NPC was is better, it can look full 3d...even u scroll the camera to any angel

And what Guardians said has some truth to it.The NPCs are supposed to be much more realistic ie.They walk around their assigned area,reenacting an actual persons life.
And quite shockingly,the graphics are a notch better than the last PS2 FFs,and FFXII has a lower polygonal count than FFX & FFX-2.

Because it's the next generation of Final Fantasy game?
Considering that gameplay wise it's totally different than any other single player FF, I'd say it deserves the title next-gen. In this case it means the next generation of FF, not next-gen console. It's a totally new direction for the series so I'd say it fits.
