One of my friends just got a new Corolla. It's a very nice car, and considering the typical reliability of Toyota, I'd bet money that it's a very good investment. Really, with Toyota or Honda, you can't go wrong, but I think the Corolla's a great buy.

Check out the Mazda 5. I don't know anything about reliability, but they sure are nice for the "can't quite get an SUV" but "don't want a little car" people.

Most Mazdas are crap, but the 3, Miata and supposedly the 5 are good cars that are built in Japan. The 6, Tribute, MPV and RX-8 all suck.

My husband drove a Mazda Protege for 5 years and had minimal problems. And he also made tons of aftermarket modifications to the car and it never really had a problem. He only sold it because he wanted a faster car.
Also, if you are swayed to Mazdas Shlup, I can talk to hubbie to see if he can get you a discount...

Even the occasional Ford can go through life without many problems. That doesn't mean it's the standard.

I had a Taurus with 162,000 miles, and a Mercury Sable 213,400 miles with the original engine and tranny. But that was a Ford pushrod V6, not the flimsy DOHC belt driven euro imitation. Every company has their good and bads.

Mazda 5 looks like a minivan. *gag*

I'm leaning towards the Corolla though. Even though I don't really want one. *pout*
