I believe he was using the Chronicles version.

Well, it has 'Cure 4' in it, so it isn't the GBA.

    Congratulations!

Play it for the Lunar Ruins

    Vaan - "Hey, you!"
Penelo - "Yeah, you! The one reading this sig at this very moment!"
Vaan - "Interested in playing FFXII International Zodiac Job system?"
Ashe - "But you have no knowledge of the Japanese language?"
    Fran - "....We could help...."
Balthier - "That's right, Fran! Just click on Crossblades' thread on the very bottom of this signature and it will show you all license grid translations, magicks and tecks locations, and other changes that were made!"
Basch - "Don't forget though. Swap Magic is needed to play this game if you don't own a japanese PS2."
Vaan - "Also remember that if you played the original, you'll have an easier time playing the international version. We hope you enjoy the International Zodiac Job System experience. See ya then!"

Congratulations for beating FFIV! "A ton of side ultra-bosses", yeah, that's what the Lunar Ruins mostly are, I guess. However, think about all the US FFX fans who are angry about not getting to fight the Dark Aeons (I found the Dark Aeons more a nuisance than a welcome addition since they block your way to loads of places, but meh). If you want to do some side quests in FFIV and fight some more optional bosses, I guess FFIVA is a good choice for you.

It's worth it because you can switch around your team.

Changing party members can be fun, but I still used the original party when I went through the final dungeon for the first time. The changes usually don't change the main structure (3 fighters, 2 mages) of the party: replacing Rydia and Rosa with Palom and Porom, or replacing Kain and Edge with Yang and Cid.

    Me too.

I didn't even touch that 8-Floor Bonus Dungeon until after I defeated FFIV Advance for the first time.
