    Default ff8=creepy

is it just me...or did anyone else find ff8 kind of creepy when they first played it? i mean, its about witches...or sorceress or whatever. edea is kind of scary looking...all pale and gloomy (but sexy). the whole flashback where it shows squall and everyone back in the orphange and edea as matron was kind of creepy. the orphanage looked creepy, and having such a creepy woman like matron living there was even creepier. and whats worse, they play that "fithos..luces, wethos, vinosec!" song in the background. and that song was creeping me the hell out. oh and when rinoa was all possesed, she looked like one of those japanese ghost. its bad enough this girl is pale as hell. than she gets possessed and turns all ghostly. reminded me of "the ring" girl.

Everything about Edea is deeply creepy, but that's part of why she's one of my favorite characters. Her apperance, her theme music, her story arc, and even the faint sounds of bells when she appears in combat are all very cool.

But anything related to Sorceresses in the game are intended to be creepy. It would explain the persecution and apparent revulsion that Ultimecia and other Sorceresses endured.

I'm guessing the translators chose to use sorceress instead of witch because there are more negative associations with the latter, at least in western cultures. But the creators clearly intended it to be witch, as the hidden anagram in the song you mentioned demonstrates.

They were indeed originally called Witches. Sorceress is probably a more creative equivalent of Witch (though it isn't as strong a word), so that's probably why they chose to use it.

Speaking of which, those Sorceresses in Time Compression were pretty creepy, yes. Ultimecia's Castle is also creepy with the gothic demeanor and organ music.

yep. in general FF i made a thread called "freakiest FF." or something and i said reason for my thinking its the freakiest and creepiest. first. the whole sorceress thing. from the wierd clothes to the music. ultimecias castle is awesome but also one of the freakiest FF locations (the only reason i didn't say it was the freakiest is because i may be overlooking another freaky location.) the whole things with when sorceresses die they have no face. when you defeat adel, her face explodes during the dieing sequence and when you fight ultimecias final form, the boss has no face and seems as the corpse is hanging below and it has no face it makes sense that ultimecia is dead. and in my opinion ultimecias final form is the most well designed FF boss. it has so much meaning and things it symbolizes and stuff. the sorceress wings, the wierd face and everything. FF8 is freaky and spooky and stuff like that but if it wasn't i doubt it would be as good.

note that when i say freaky or spooky im being very strict and saying its freaky even if its only the slightest bit freaky seems as FF8 isn't "hide behind the nearest big thing" scary.

I actually found the Fayth of Anima and her Aeon to be the creepiest aspect of FFX. Not just Anima itself, but the motivation of her Fayth, which always struck me as twisted and somewhat sick.

The creepiest aspects of FFVII were anything related to Jenova. Barrett's initial reaction to her said it all.

Back to FFVIII, I found Ultimecia to be creepy as well, but Adel is by far the freakiest of the Soceresses.

You're kiddin' right? Do you even go out on Halloween? What do you mean, creepy? Are you really that easily scared? You really shouldn't play Final Fantasy IV then. Creepy Dolls, Living Walls, and faceless Dwarves. For that matter, Final Fantasy Tactics should be you're own personal "House of Horrors" with Lucavi Demons and the like....

By all the things you described, you should have been frightened by the mere mention of FANTASY in the name Final Fantasy... I mean, c'mon...

Did you find IFRIT creepy? He looks kinda like... Say it for me Church Lady...

CHURCH LADY: Hmm... I don't know.... Could it beeee... SATAN!?!!!!

Thanks Church Lady. Heck, did it 'creep' you out when Bahamut was summoned? What about the fact that SeeDs are using Para-Magic, conjureing up fire and ice and the like like witches and warlocks? Ooooh!

You can't be that easily 'creeped-out'... Really.

haha ok tough guy. when i said ff8 is creepy, i dont mean im scared to play the game. i'm playing the game right now as i'm typing. i just beat NORG. i'm just saying, ff8 is a creepy game. just look at edea all pale. i remember this one part, after the promise squall makes with rinoa at the flower field...and your on your way out to leave edea's house, you see her just standing there by the doorway like a frikking ghost and she gives you an item. and dont tell me you didnt find that song a little bit creepy. i mean, theyre like singing in the most ghostliest voice ever.

i found ifrit actually pretty cool looking. i have no idea how ifrit looks like a church lady.

i dont understand why i should be afraid of the word "fantasy" in final fantasy. i like fantasy type of stories. and i have played IV, and i didnt find it that creepy. but those dolls were actually kind of scary. and obviously, you get creeped out too since you mentioned that those dolls are creepy and the faceless dwarves. if you werent creeped out by them, than you wouldnt find them creepy to mention. so please dont be like "are you really that easily creeped out??" when your no different.

Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec is ten times freaker on the self-titled album. It's all enchanting and what-not until some shrill Egyptian-esque chanting ensues, nearly giving me a heart attack and busting out my eardrum.

Of course, maybe that isn't the kind of music one should listen to in the dark anyway...

I fail to see the 'creep' factor in Edea.

And 'vinosec' is actually decently lilting at slow speeds.
