I say Tidus would win for being less emo. Squall is just a jerk for no reason, while Tidus has actual problems (ie an abusive father who turns out to be the destroyer of Spira, I think we'd all be pretty upset about that). However, Squall has a LOT more training than Tidus (when you start the game, Tidus can't even lift up his sword, while Squall is getting ready to graduate).

...Now that I think about it, this one's kind of a toss-up. Squall can junction 6 ways to sunday and become insanely powerful, but Tidus can break the damage limit and do 99999 damage per hit with Blitz Ace. I think this is probably one of the only hard to call FF matchups.

tidus would be doing like 9999 damage while squall is still doing 200 some damage. whats crazy is that tidus can go over 9999 making it a guarantee that no matter how high squalls HP is...tidus will kill him in one hit.

gf's HP can only go up to 9999 also...so fine. it'll take tidus two hits to kill him. if tidus's overdrive meter is at 0 and squall attacks...tidus will take it. he'll take all the 500 damage or whatever squall throws at him and attack squall with his 9999 damage.

While I like Tidus better, I think Squall would win a fight between the two as Tidus is more of a normal person and Squall is a mercenary with training.

That is purely a fanboy answer, with no attention payed to game mechanics at all.

Squall would win, because of the power of the Junctioning system. Tidus may be able to reach 99999 damage with his Caladbolg, but that would be his undoing, because having that much damage doesn't matter. Speed is always the most important attribute in a battle between FF characters. The Caladbolg doesn't have Initiative. Squall can Junction Initiative. Squall strikes first, and his 9999 damage may not be as impressive as Tidus' 99999, but it will be enough to kill Tidus anyway. Then too, Squall can junction 100 Deaths or Pains to his Status Attack, and Tidus will fall that way.
