Also, Photoshop costs a ton of money. Several hundred dollars if you buy an old version, the newest version is nearly 1000 dollars. A lot of money, you say, but remember that this is a tool for professionals. 3D modelling programs usually costs 3 times as much as Photoshop.

I doubt that. Maybe Adobe Photoshop Elements, which is a stripped down Photoshop sold for a much cheaper price, but lacks a lot of the professional tools. It would still be good enough for the average computer user though. If it actually was a real, proper Photoshop CS or better, I bet it was pirated. And sure, everyone does it, but it's not legal, and a computer store could get in some serious deep <img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif"> if they shipped pirated software with their PCs.
Also, considering the people Photoshop is made for, it's not really a rip off at all. Photoshop is rarely bought by private persons, but by companies or people who make a living using it. It's no different than a cab driver needing a car in order to make money. Developing Photoshop costs a lot of money too, which explains the high price.
