Thread: Hmm, possibly a stupid question. *Spoilers possible I guess*

Default Hmm, possibly a stupid question. *Spoilers possible I guess*

Alot of the spells don't really have spell descriptions or i'm looking in the wrong place for them...

    FFChronicles version.

Most of the spells I know from FF1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Tactics. Some are flaky though and don't seem to do anything.
I'm inside Fabul at the moment, and it's not too hard, although things hit anyone except Cecil for alot of damage.

That brings up my main question... any way to change row for just one party member? I try using row.. but it switches them all around.. not just one. Currently that leaves Cecil, Edward, and Rydia in front and Yang/Rosa in the back.

As Edward hides every time he gets hit almost... its growing frustrating to keep him alive and in the battle/nonhidden so he can level(not sure if he gets experience when hiding but he hasn't been growing lately)

So basically any info on changing rows to where i can put the fraidy cat in the backrow with rydia and rosa while keeping yang and cecil in the front row would help.

Cecil is around lvl 18 or so, Rosa 12 i think, Rydia 14 or 15. Yang 12 or so... and Edward 11 or 12.

You can either have two in front and three in back or vice versa. And you're free to switch characters around within the party, so you should have no problem getting the setup you want.

    Ah, thanks Kawaii

    *edit*

erm no spoiler tag when editing but.

A dragoon utterly defeated me and stole something.. then we got on a ship and sort of ran into something that wrecked the ship.. and now im in a village where the people cast toad and pig and mini on me alot .... yet still let me buy weapons and armor and items...

Is this normal ? or did I mess up somewhere.

The little boy has a nice attitude....

    S'up dude

That's just a normal part of the story. You didn't screw up or anything.

Aye I knew the dragoon, just wanted to... make it spoilerfree as I could since I didn't have the spoiler tag.

Currently in Baron again and Yang joined the party. The two kids are cute

I was beginning to think this was going to be like Tactics, where (SPOILER)everyone dies every 5minutes.... and the death toll for the game is in the hundreds.... but at least Yang is alive, and no one else is dead it looks like... Not sure if Rydia lived..

Ok I was wrong... (SPOILER) Porom...... Palom..... Rydia probably too... The king.... so many dead.. Yep, I'm going to be like Tellah... Golbez is definately DEAD... So IV is like Tactics... in which everyone in the story except 10 characters die..?

Also the damage in this game seems a bit random.. sometimes Yang will hit for 50, other times 300....
But it is definately getting a little harder for my lvl 20-22 party as we just got asked by Kain to go get a crystal. Nothing super hard.. but mini sure does lower defense..... MINI! /slash for 400 damage.

Hate to double post... but... an edit doesn't bump the topic.. and don't really want to create a new one.

level 26-28ish.. and just easily beat the 3 sisters...
    Quite easy actually.

Yet... the boss after them... 500 max melee attack, Petrify over time... Casts Wind at random while in Tornado to bring a character to 1-9hp,
(I don't attack with anyone else but Kain, and still does Wind 1-2 times before Kain stops the boss.

Rosa is 700hp, the rest are 1000-1400... any special hints here?
I can't remember if Rosa has armor or not, will try casting more of that, but the boss attacks just insanely fast....

I'm assuming the simplest answer is to go gain another 5 levels like I did for the Mangetic fellow.... as the dragon there killed Telah in one hit, then my other characters pretty much died trying to get Tellah back up. 5 levels and a group armor later, and he wasn't as bad.

Seems IV is the story of Tactics combined with the difficulty of FF1.
ie... things hit very hard and you aren't meant to just go through a dungeon fighting every single battle because it will severely drain your MP... and things just hit very hard compared to later FFs?

Is a nice challenge after playing FFX... which had less challenge... until the arena.

Edit by Kishi: Don't double-post. This forum isn't so busy that you need to worry about your thread getting lost in the shuffle anyway.

i agree, but logic like this doesn't fly around these parts, my friend...

make sure rosa is on the back row so she is damaged less.

IV isn't an easy game, but you shouldn't be trying to scrape through a dungeon running from battles and JUST ABOUT killing the boss. if you are running from battles it means you need to level more.

also a good tip is when healing outside battle, cast cure1 several times to fill health. overall it uses less MP than casting higher cure spells.

    This is true.
However when playing Final Fantasy 1, the normal version.. if you are beating it at anything below 35.. you are running from battles in the final dungeon usually..... At least for me there are far too many monsters there that deplete MP reserves far too quickly.

I was merely saying FFIV seems to be like that... where in later FFs, you could walk around in a dungeon infinitely it seemed because of easier to access curative items or larger MP pools, or weaker enemies.

I will do a bit more leveling.

I am mostly battling my way through the dungeons. I have a good supply of tents, and use them at save points regularly, but one battle can easily easily easily take half of Cecil's MP to cure the party and sometimes half of Tellah's too.
Can go into the battle with Cecil 1200, Cid 1100, Yang 1500, Tellah 520, and come out at around Cecil 400, Cid 600, Yang 300, Tellah 150.
Yang and Cecil are in the Front Row.

enemies attack very fast, and even in wait mode.. they don't seem to wait unless you are on an item or spell menu, and most things are hitting upfront characters for 100-200 a hit and getting 3-4 attacks per fight before they can be dispatched.

I like the fact its more like Final Fantasy 1, just makes it a little tougher. Will just have to level a little more or get luckier.

I guess its mostly just the enemies speed.
They get attack after attack after attack... where in FF1, enemies might hit hard, yes.. but they didn't attack 2 or 3 times to my 1 turn.
For all the loading times and slowness of animations... the speed of the monster's turns is disproportional is basically it. Typically after Cecil attacks, then Yang and Cid attack, then Tellah casts Cure on someone, and its back to Cecil, every enemy on the screen has attacked twice, if not 3 times.

    and sorry Kishi..
it was stupid to double post, I thought it would be missed because when you edit, it doesn't classify it as a new post, and people would look at the FFIV forum and see no new posts and move on to one of the more... busier forums. In looking back I am sorry.

    *edit*

got 1-2 more levels.. then tried again.. This time set battle speed to 5 instead of 2....
Insanely easier fight. She hurt but she didn't just... bam bam bam.. dead... game over.
Game is a LOT easier on slower battle speeds
Don't know if thats cheating or not.

Ah, yes. Here is a major spoiler. Don't read it unless you don't care about some of the characters.

(SPOILER)Rydia is not dead. You get her back once you enter the Dwarven Castle in the Underworld. Palom and Porom are merely petrified, and get restored later by the Mysidian Elder. Golbez is only very weakened by Meteor. Yang doesn't die either, you find him later in the Sylph Cave. Tellah, on the other hand, is permanently dead. He is the only character in the game that dies permanently, except for the real King of Baron.

Currently down in the ... erm hole in the mountain.

Someone just rejoined the party, and someone left it...
and now heading to a tower while someone is weak and not in it we hope according to the king's idea.

(SPOILER)Or in other words.... went to the underworld, Rydia somehow healed paralyse, killed Golbez's Summon, and we beat him up a little. Now the king opened a path through the mountain to some Tower... Probably going to hear there... didnt look like there was much to explore down here in the underworld on the castle side of the mountain. Hope underworld is the correct term... as I don't remember at the moment.
I may level up a bit more though... one member only has 600 hp, and another 900~
