Default Are reality shows too "gimicky" these days?

Do you believe that reality shows try too hard to be shocking or just plain ridiculous to get audiences?

Personally, I do, but I don't think that if a show is "gimicky" it's not necessarily bad, mostly because I like when a show or movie gets a plot twist or something unexpected happens.

I don't believe the makers of the show are responsible, it's the contestants, sure they can help by giving them the odd poke or the odd stimulating object but it's never enough to be in full control of what they say or do

Initially reality TV itself was a gimmick. Then people started to lose interest, so then they added new gimmicks. It's how modern entertainment works these days, unfortunately.

I don't watch reality TV. Who needs to see a bunch of bartenders have sex with each other? That's what porn is for.

The appeal of reality shows has worn off somewhat in recent years, and producers are now starting to use desperation tactics in order to increase ratings. Thus, reality shows are now becoming over the top, ridiculous, and in some cases, dangerous.

"Gimick" is the One Commandment of reality shows! Thanks, to all of the [numerous expletives deleted] out there still glued to the sets, they're still churning reality shows out like cheap toys....

Would someone like to explain when the entire concept was anything other than a gimmick?

In case you didnt know, "reality TV" and "gimmick" are synonymous. Same with "reality TV" and "crap".
