ff7 doesnt work on my pc :[

i installed ff7 on my pc (the actualy pc version) and it doesnt seem to work on my computer (it used to before my old harddrive crashed). i've tried all these compatibility settings and patches but it doesnt seem to fully work. when i start the game, i can hear the music of the eidos logo but i just get a blank screen...then i cant even alt+tab out or ctrl+alt+del so i have to turn my computer off manually by pressing and holding the power button. does anybody know what i should do? my cd's dont seem to be scratched either.
