I personally like GTO(Great teacher Onizuka) as it is damn funny.
X manga is good too
Monster
The psychological story of a surgeon who unwittingly saves the life of a preternaturally murderous youth and then, after discovering the truth nine years later, resolves to make things right by personally tracking him down and putting an end to his heinous deeds. A very well-written story with a large cast of compelling characters.
Vagabond
An adaptation of the novel Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa, which itself was an adaptation of the actual life and times of Miyamoto Musashi, Japan's most legendary samurai. The manga starts off when he was just a snot-nosed seventeen-year-old nobody, and from there it steadily depicts his various trials and interactions with other Japanese historical figures as he progresses towards his goal of becoming "invincible under the sun." In addition to the quality plot and characters, there's plenty of blood-drenched swordfighting, and the artwork overall is incredibly detailed.
Those would definitely be the top two.
Well, since I'm probably the biggest Champloo fanboy ever, I'm gonna go ahead and say...
Get the Champloo ones. There's only 2, but they're pretty good. There's also a film-manga of it, which is just like the anime. The regular Manga are different.
