Thread: Suspension of belief!

  1. #1

    Default Suspension of belief!

This thread is purely intended as tongue in cheek, and not as serious debate.

Ever notice how so many games expect you to accept so many strange and odd occurences just to make it playable? What's the most ludicrous and silly thing you've ever had to simply... accept in a video game?

Example: Really important things that you need to use conveniently sparkling on screen, as in... well, pratically every game ever. Maybe if my glasses could do something as like that, I wouldn't lose them all the time.

    Your turn.

The term you're looking for is suspension of disbelief.

The first thing that comes to mind is the ludicrous perversion of genetic science found in the Metal Gear Solid games. Fortunately, the MGS series has a constant subtext of "Relax, it's just a game," so it's easily forgiven.

Accepting Bridget was a guy was pretty tough going.

Accepting a cel-shaded Link in Wind Waker was a big test for me. After playing OoT for the last half-decade, it took some getting used to.

    I adapted well, though.

I'm going with the easy one. Using a phoenix down on Aeris.

Any RPG that wants me to accept a 14-year-old could cope with save the world situations is always some heavy suspension.

But not as much as Squall choosing Rinoa when Quistis is standing right there.

The question I've always wondered was why Bowser, knowing full and well that his arch-nemesis was a plumber didn't do anything about all of the pipes in the Mushroom Kingdom as some sort of preventative measure.

Squall wouldn't be able to handle kinky Quistis.

Ah, I almost forgot about Tidus' ridiculous hair. You have to suspend your disbelief to accept that one. I mean, how can you keep your hair in such gorgeous and pristine condition without using some sort of wax/gel every morning? Ridiculous, I say.

That there is some sort of secret anti-terrorist organization of elite operatives that dispatch of threats known through high-level intel. Come on, Tom Clancy, get real!

I've never understood how two enemies can get together and play tennis, golf, baseball, soccer, board games, and do some go-kart racing.
Boy am I an unfunny ass.
