    Default Can someone explain this?

Ok, Wednesday afternoon, I called up to the local Rhinos and asked if they had any copys of this game. They said they had 3 used ones and one that was still factory sealed in the package. So I went up there and got it. As the guy said, it was factory sealed. It had the stickers on it that holds the case closed as well as the original plastic sealing on it. Well, I noticed something wierd about it when I brought it home. On the case, it said Square Enix instead of Squaresoft. Why?But in the game it says Square soft. So has there been any more copys of this game put out since Square joined Enix or what? Because I know the last Final Fantasy game Square made before they joined Enix was Final Fantasy X

It was probably sealed recently so naturally they would not put "Squaresoft" on the box.

Apparently, the only FFVIII to be released under SE is the Japanese Ultimate Hits version.

Well, it is a Greatest Hits Version, but that still confused me.

I'm pretty sure my FF Anthologies has Square Enix. It's also a Greatest Hits.

I'm guessing the Greatest Hits games are still being printed, so naturally they'd have to put Square-Enix on it.

It was implied that only the Japanese Greatest Hits version was in production, when that is clearly not the case.

I bought Final Fantasy VIII new 3 years ago right after I beat Kingdom Hearts. [2 of the GREATEST games I've ever played!!! :kaohappy2] The KH box said Squaresoft, and the FFVIII box said Square Enix, and the FFVIII box said Greatest Hits and the KH box didn't.

My FF Anthology, FFVII and FFX are all Greatest Hits as well and say Square Enix, except the FFVII box is the only one that still says Squaresoft for some reason.

And also if you look the game booklet, there's something you can send out to Square to win games and stuff, and it asks you to check off what games you played. In all of the Greatest Hits boxes they have games listed such as FFX, FFX-2, FFXI, and KH, which were obviously not released yet. :rolleyes2 So I kinda figured they were packaged recently.

Yes, my non-GH version of FFVIII doesn't say Square Enix, just Squaresoft. Obviously, b/c I got it when it came out. Then last year, I got another copy off ebay b/c my disc 1 kept crashing. It says GH Square Enix on it. So, that means they must still make them, or did after the merger. When did they start releasing games with GH? Was that after the merger? makes sense.

The same thing is true with Xenogears. I guess if it says GH, then b/c they started that after the merger (someone find a source on that), then it'll say Square Enix.

An interesting experiment. I finished Disc 1 of FFVIII GH, then when it told me to insert Disc 2, I was like, "Hmmmm, I wonder what would happen if I put in my older FFVIII disc that isn't greatest hits." Nothing bad happens!
