Thread: Issues with FFIV Advance...

    Default Issues with FFIV Advance...

    I have mixed feelings.

I've always believed that it's wrong to tamper with classics, especially when they're awesome as it is. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but the GBA version does not have the line "You spoony bard!", unless I'm gravely mistaken. And that may have been the most memorable line in the game!

Another issue that I have is with the ability to change party members at the end of the game. That's not right. FFIV wasn't a game where you could do that. Edge sucks, I know. But you're stuck with him. No switching him out for someone better. Not that there is anyone better to choose from. Edward, Cid, Yang, Palom, Porom... Nothing spectacular there. But I was just bothered to know that there are people out there who hadn't played Final Fantasy II on SNES and the first version of this game that they played was the FF4A version. Those people will never know the quirky stuff about the game that we all loved. For example, you know that "Ah the power of cheese" thing that someone here made? Well, it's much funnier to those of us who played the old SNES version, bad translation and all.

However, there is an upside for me. FFIV was a fantastic game. And FF4A has opened it up to a whole new audience. Now people today can enjoy this wonderful game. I just hope that most of them like enough to be compelled to play the original SNES version at some point.

the spoony bard line is in all versions. you are gravely mistaken.

also, the basic summary of your post is "when i was young i played a game and it was awesome. they changed it now. i like the old one i played cuz it reminds me of being young and it was great!!"

well, that's just fine mate. but the facts are that FFII SNES was badly translated, and also a lot easier. you can wrap that up in nostalgia if you want, it's your own decision.

I was more annoyed by the craptacular ATB system with it's stupid errors.

i dont like some of the new features but i guess its still good.

do you have to use the ATB on FF4 advanced? if you do, thats definetly not good.

the script is different and perhaps they tampered with it a little too much.

gyrus: the european version had no ATB glitches, so if you wanna import that one you're sorted.

boys from the dwarf: FF2 SNES also used the ATB system, it just didn't display the time gauge on the battle screen.

Personally, i played emulated versions of FF4 a few years before Advanced came out, and to me, not much changes. I havent beaten it, but it has had the same difficulty and story as before, so i have no problems with it.

I think FFIVA was a very good remake of FFIV. The user-friendliness has been improved to be more like in some of the other FFs (easier equipping, easier shopping etc), and the translation is done very well for the most of the time, IMHO. There were some weird glitches in the game, but they didn't really bother me.

I had problems with the ending, though, since that one had the text going way too fast during the parts when (SPOILER)the characters had returned to Earth, and you saw some scenes of all of them, finally ending to the wedding. Not only did I miss half of the text there, but (SPOILER)the Final Fantasy main theme played during the wedding cut off too quickly (I checked the soundtrack and the GBA sound test, and I'm sure of this). I'm not really feeling like playing the final dungeon twice more, either, or then beating the extra dungeon.

However, other than some parts in the end game being questionable, I thought FFIVA was a really good FF game.

Despite the glitches, I found FFIVA to be much enjoyable than other versions of FFIV. I like the fact that you can switch characters before the final battle. The Lunar Ruins is also fun to play in

    Vaan - "Hey, you!"
Penelo - "Yeah, you! The one reading this sig at this very moment!"
Vaan - "Interested in playing FFXII International Zodiac Job system?"
Ashe - "But you have no knowledge of the Japanese language?"
    Fran - "....We could help...."
Balthier - "That's right, Fran! Just click on Crossblades' thread on the very bottom of this signature and it will show you all license grid translations, magicks and tecks locations, and other changes that were made!"
Basch - "Don't forget though. Swap Magic is needed to play this game if you don't own a japanese PS2."
Vaan - "Also remember that if you played the original, you'll have an easier time playing the international version. We hope you enjoy the International Zodiac Job System experience. See ya then!"

I don't like how people who played the Translated FFIV Version on the Emulator keep insulting the American Translation.

Even on VBA this game was awfully buggy. Going down to an item or spell felt like I was trying to bench press 5 times my weight. It was...futile. And I'm pretty sure I broke my arrow keys.

On VBA it was even buggier. Infact, parts of the game got corrupted.

Also as to the comment that the European version is bugfree, it isnt. I doubt they even made any changes to the game before releasing it here.

you're chattin beans there, lad. i've played my version for 50 hours and i've never ever known any character to get the same turn twice, or miss a turn or any of that bollocks. the battles are a bit... jerky (especially the final battle), but not too much so. haven't noticed any bugs. you must have been had off with a yank version.
