    Default Virus

Okay, I have a virus. Or maybe a couple viruses.

AVG doesn't seem to want to get rid of them. Its currently doing a scan right now again, and I'm going to see if that gets rid of it. I'm running an Ad-Aware scan as well. The problem is it keeps popping up internet sites. I once got an un-wanted porn popup.

What are some good and effective ways to beat the <img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif"> out of viruses?

Reformat your hard drive and start from scratch. It's the only way to be sure.

Okay. Um... I don't really want to do that? :P

If your antivirus software isn't coming through, reformatting is most often your only good choice, at least within reason. It sucks, but sometimes there is no way around it. It is, unfortunately, one of many maladies Windows users are forced to put up with. What are the symptoms of virus/spyware you're experiencing?

Try using SpyBot in addition to Ad Aware.
What you have is adware, not a virus, so AVG won't catch it.

What are the addresses of the websites it is bringing up (provided they aren't all directly linking to porn, of course )?

EDIT: Wasn't your hard drive formatted by the Ubuntu installer anyway?

If running AVG, AdAware, and Spybot doesn't do it, try the virus scan again in safe mode. And also try Panda's active scan. It's just a free online scan, but it got rid of several viruses on my old computer that Norton wouldn't do a thing about.

Okay I got rid of it. I used Ad-Aware along with PrevX1. (Which is an amazingly good program.)
