Well, about a week ago I applied for a job as an extra in a Hollywood movie they're shooting about an hour away. I got an email back saying that they didn't know if they'd need me, but they were interested in my look. It's about vikings, you see, and they need people who look just like me. Well, I just got an email saying that they'll probably want me to go in to start shooting on Wednesday morning. And by Wednesday morning, I mean Tuesday night, because they may want me there as early as 2-3 AM. I'm excited.

I wasn't allowed to take pictures, but I did manage to recreate my costume in my own special way. :P The cape thing was over my left side (which didn't have any armour on it) and the leg things were actually straps. The fur was also higher. That's about all the differences.









Anyway, why it sucked.

They contacted me at 9 at night to tell me I had to be there by 2 which meant I had to wake up at 11:30. Then it was the usual waiting stuff which wasn't really a big deal. It gave me a chance to zone out. Then came the standing-in-a-bog-in-the-cold-and-wind part. You'd think they could have at least mentioned where the holes were. Then maybe I'd have been there for more than fifteen minutes before getting my feet soaked. They wouldn't even give me plastic bags to stick in my shoes to keep my feet dry. Not to mention that I couldn't wear a coat over my costume between takes because of all of the stuff they put on it. One shoulder had a blanket (which kept falling off) and the other one had a bracer. The weapons kept faling off my belt, except the shield, which just sort of hung there loosely. I almost passed out twice from sleep deprivation and dehydration (god forbid there be any water on set besides what I was standing in). Christ.

Aside from all of that, they pretty much treated the extras like crap. There was one big tent to sit in between shoots and they crammed all of the extras into the back 1/5 of it, despite the fact that there were as many of us as there were of them. Not only that, but there was no heating in that area. I said "Screw this" and sat in the middle of the tent with the crew, not unlike Rosa Parks on the bus. Then when they served lunch they explicitly told us that we'd be getting the same food as everyone else, but that was a lie. We had salad and pasta. They had roast chicken and lasagna. We're vikings. We need our meat.

Anyway, I quit. It's SO not worth the $9 per hour.

A real viking wouldn't have minded the bog.

A real viking would have had real boots and not felt slippers.

Aww, like I said earlier... it sucks that you made the whole thing up it didn't work out. It would have been cool to be an extra and all, but wet and hungry is peasant work, not viking work damnit. There's always 9$ an hour ninjas out there Roto!
