Hundred Reasons are one of my favourite bands, i've seen them live 4 times, they kick ass live.

    I will recommend these people:

    Hip Hop:
    Common
    Nas
    Roots Manuva

    Punk:

Alkaline Trio (don't listen to a lot of punk, I must admit.)

Others (cba to catagorize for each lot anymore):

Ayreon: Just...really smurfing awesome band. Rock/Metal Opera is the best way to describe it. It's just awesome. Some of it sounds like it's from a video game, it's epic stuff. All the albums tell a story. Best to listen to them all in one go

Nick Drake: Really, REALLY good singer/songwriter from the 70's. Acoustic stuff, autumnal songs, really. Sort of folky/even a little bit psychadelic. Listening to the three albums he released in order just shows his descent into depression and he eventually ended up killing himself, which is a shame because he was fantastic.

Explosions in the Sky: Awesome post-rock band, for the most part all instrumental music, it's awesome chilled out rock.

Polysics: ghetto japanese punk/electronic band. They're totally mental and awesome.

The Mad Capsule Markets: because they are my favourite band and they rule. :D

I dislike Pandora because it only recommends music that has no similarities with the band you choose.

Artists I can recommend that I enjoy listening to are Our Lady Peace, Vanessa-Mae, Katie Melua, Clannad, David Bowie, The Corrs, and the simply awesome Lene Marlin.

Going on the stuff you like, Nightmare of you are very good. Also hellogoodbye.

Also go to http://www.last.fm and you can use the similar artists thing if you want to find similar artists. There's a million bands I'd recommend but I don't know if you'd like them!

Throwing Muses and any related bands.

Trust me, you'll thank me later.

In no way do Pandora and last.fm even come close to solving the "Find me new music I like" question. The databases are incompletely indexed and the algorithms aren't robust enough. As a wise man from another forum once said, "Everyone gets a giant boner over this site the first time they are on it - then they realize its like having a really annoying roommate who owns the stereo."

A mapping site like http://www.liveplasma.com/ would serve you better the more eclectic your taste in music becomes. It's not that much better, but it's more thorough in terms of mapping and indexing, and is a lot more complete than Pandora since it isn't trying to be a radio station.

Speak for yourself, I found absolutely loads of new bands I now love thanks to LastFm along with a whole bunch of people who can recommend you stuff, and communities. It's not all about a database, though I would say that about Pandora maybe. LastFM is a community which can really expand your music tastes.

    QFT. :D

Although most of the tags on Last.Fm are smurfing stupid, it's still a good site.

Kill Your Own, while a good CD, is the weakest HR release IMHO. Ideas above our Station is still my favourite HR album.
