Presumably when you made your thread or replied to it, you had the "suscribe to thread" option ticked.

You got mail.
They can get kind of annoying if you're not really interested in the thread. You can review a list of all of your subscribed threads in your User CP. You can also decide whether or not to automatically subscribe to threads from there.
