I always thought it was pretty much a tie between them.

i voted for imperial guard, its defense is 82 which is much higher than mystile which has just 65.
Ziedrich is the best with A full 100 defense but does not have any slots:rolleyes2

I like Imperial Guard better.
I can't remember what Imperial Guard did, but I remember Mystile being one of my favorite armor items, if not my favorite, because it's very good with dodging enemy attacks. Mystile can sometimes even dodge Emerald Weapon's attacks, and quite many of Safer Sephiroth's attacks miss if the targeted character has Mystile equipped.

Wow, taking a look at your info on each piece of armour made me realize how superior Mystile actually is, mainly because of its extremely high Defence % rates.

it depends on the situation. i voted imperial guard mainly because later enmies hit u anyway. but if ur stats are maxed then 'd have to be wizard bracelet for the 8 connected slots

I think Mystile is the superior piece of armour. I had it for my fight with Ruby wpn, and half of his attacks, and none of his Ultima's hit me.
Mystile is better, counter-attack command still triggers when the enemy attack misses. the defence in the end wouldn't make much of a difference
Considering that Mystile is one of the few armours with noticeable Evasion%, that Defence can be maxed out with Body Sources, and that Magic Defense is irrelevant on armours, it's easily the best armour in the game.

imperial guard is great, but i always though that mystile was better, cause theres more monsters that attack with powerful magic then normal attakcs..
The armour's MDef isn't taken into account during battle, so it doesn't reduce magical damage at all. If you're referring to the MDef%, then it's a different matter.
