    Default gil snapper help

how do you beat this thing??...who would think a pink turtle would be so badass? i mean seriously, i always get so close to killing him...but i never do. my vaan is at level 31 and the rest are at 25 or 26. i cant cast any time/arcane/or green magick on this guy either because it ALWAYS misses. the walkthroughs can tell me to use slow or immobile magick all it wants. its gonna miss. the walkthrough also tells me to use belias, which was pointless. because his attacks only did like...200 some damage and he's always going over to some other turtles and fighting them instead. its not like you can tell belias who to fight either because he thinks he's the best and wont let you command him. his finishing attack does like 400-500 damage which is just pathetic. the ice shield does nothing to help you when he casts some ice spells on you. how do you beat him?!?!? help me please!

My characters were all at level 20ish and I beat him. don't bother casting spells (except white magic) forget belias (Gil Snapper's resistant to fire and the damn thing attacked the wrong target anyway). Get a bunch of characters with quickenings (I got Vaan, Basch, Ashe and Penelo) and use the quickenings. Then, use an ether to refill the character with the lowest max MP (for me it was Basch with 56) and use him to start another mist chain. Repeat until victorious. Set aside hours of free time to fight this thing 'cause it'll take quite a few attempts. And stock plenty of Hi-potions and get some characters with a couple Ether Lore liscences equipped. Good luck.

Cast Thundara. One hit can do about 2700 damage. I have all of my character learning all of the magic and it's easy to beat him with Thundaras. Bansat will probably buff you with Protect, Shell and Haste, make full use of that!!!! Use Cura often too. If I'm right, he's not immune to Slow and Immobilize, the walkthrough is right, you just need to cast it often, don't worry, I always have to cast the same magicks more than 20 times for it to work, so you're lucky. If you think Ice Shield is not helping, unequip it, and you'll see the ice damage you get doubles.

After beating a giant tortise 17 levels stronger than my party, the other bossews seemed a tad easier. And knowing that you people defeated him at a higher level and later than I makes me feel pretty good about myself.

Yeah, you may as well get used to plot bosses being significantly easier than the latest Elite Marks.

I was able to cast slow on him (something you should always at least try).

well if slow is one of those magicks that takes like 5 times to work. i'm not using it. its not worth wasting 5 turns.

I've never had to cast it more than twice. It usually sticks on the first try. But then again, maybe some of the level 50+ marks/rare monsters with exorbitant magic resist are tougher, in which case it may not be worth it.

    Default gil snapper is impossible

i am ready to say it. gil snapper is impossible to defeat. i tried every method and i'm always so close. at least like...5 more hits and he's should be dead. but he wont give me the chance. when he almost dies, he unleashes his deadly blizzaga or whatever that does like..over 1000 damage. welll i was able to survive his blizzaga with one person alive and 2 allies are still fresh and new which are balthier and fran. two distant attackers which is a good thing with their quickies ready to use. so i brought those two out, used their quickening...i chained like 5 times which is decent i guess...but this thing is still alive. but i thought i was still going to beat him still since he used his deadly move already and my hps are still arrite. than as he gets closer to dying, he unleashes non stop blizzaras. like i'm trying to use pheonix down but he wont give me the chance. he can cast his blizzara on 3 people at a time which is not fair at all. he goes crazy with his blizzaras. normally, he'll use his blizzara once in a while...than do physical attacks...which i can handle...but he's not even doing physical attacks anymore. he erased all his physical attacking, and basically filled it all up with magick attacking and just unleashed his blizzaras. and once i heal one person...he'll use his blizzaras again and just annhilate me. someone please help!

    • Cast Shell to lower the magical damage caused by Blizzara and Blizzaga.
    • If you're going to use Quickenings, shoot for a chain of at least fifteen or so.
    • If you haven't already, set up your characters with a Gambit along the lines of Ally:status=KO >> Phoenix Down. Or Raise, if you can afford to spend the MP.
    • Level up a bit.
    • Realize that there are Marks in this game that are dozens of times more trouble than this one.

This is a good strategy. Also, if you're going to use Quickenings like I did (I was at level 30), make sure everyone has the "Charge" Technick so that you can get your MP up after using the Quickenings.

EDIT: Also, after I had used a chain of Quickenings, I charged Penelo and had her cast Immobilize. This magick works on the Gil Snapper. Equip everyone with long range weapons or have them use magicks and you're good to go (aside from Gil Snapper's ice-element magicks)

He's not impossible to beat I just got done beating him. I had to use this gambit config to do it.
Balthier - Attack silent shot til it works
    Attack with the Storm Spear
    Fran - Ally:Balthier=Haste; Foe=Immobilize, Ally=Raise, Esuna,
    Cure; Foe=Attack
Ashe - Foe=Slow; Foe=Thundara (with the Storm Staff); Foe=Attack (with whatever normal weapon that you have her normally equipped with)

then when he starts using Flatten faster, change out Balthier and Ashe for Vaan and Basch, do a quickening and then continue to attack him til he's dead

All my characters are lvl 30
